Multicam STILL DISFUNCTIONAL after all these years.

$
0
0

I am starting this thread to try to get some attention paid to this issue again - after fighting along with several other people to try and get this issue resolved. What issue could be so important, yet so ignored on the part of Adobe? It is simply this:

THE MULTICAM FUNCTIONALITY IS FLAWED, AND PRESSING THE SPACEBAR DURING A MULTICAM EDIT CAUSES AN UNINTENDED EDIT BACK TO THE FIRST CAMERA SOURCE SELECTED WHEN THE PROJECT STARTS TO PLAY.

Nowhere in the civilized world would any editor want to create an edit when stopping playback - yet in Multicam mode with Premiere that's exactly what it does when you stop. Adobe has claimed over and over that this is just a design quirk, and not a flaw. How they justify this is anyone's guess. I'm here to stand up and say that they are being unreasonable, unfair, and absolutely unacceptable in their judgement on this issue. This IS a flaw, plain and simple, and it has kept me (and is still keeping me) from doing the most important work I have to do in Premiere as opposed to FCP or Media Composer.

They also came out and said that there is a "workaround" to this "quirk" by pressing the "0" key before you stop playback. THIS WORKAROUND DOES NOT WORK ON A MAC, AND THEREFORE DOES NOT WORK, AND IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER.

After two years of people complaining about this issue it is both INFURIATING AND UNACCEPTABLE that Adobe pushes this issue off while other issues which would seemingly be much less important are dealt with via updates.

I CANNOT DO MY WORK WITH THIS ISSUE STILL HAPPENING!! Multicam editing is too important, and this problem slows me down to the point where it is absolutely unusable for me.

Kevin Monihan, a forum moderator went around and around with users on this issue in another thread that has since been LOCKED without resolution.  (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1069438?start=40&tstart=0)

Locking a thread will not cause your issue (or all of the users who cannot accept this explanation from Adobe) TO GO AWAY.   It is NOT a design "quirk" if your "workaround" does not behave the same in Windows as it does on a Mac  - and further, it's not a quirk, it's a mistake. Compare it to any and every other editor out there, and it is WRONG BEHAVIOR.  Don't tell us it's the way it is supposed to behave - we aren't stupid, and it's an insult to me and all the other professional editors out there who agree and have brought this issue up in this forum!!

Yes, I am angry.

ADOBE - FIX THIS ISSUE ONCE AND FOR ALL.  NOW.

Pr CS7 Feature Requests

$

I am excited about getting my hands on CS6, and congratulate the Adobe team for their hard work.

However...

I haven't seen anything in the web pages or videos about these features that are vital to working editors, already requested by me and many others, but still not implemented or announced here:

http://blogs.adobe.com/premiereprotraining/2012/04/premiere-pro-cs6-wh ats-new-and-changed.html

Please join me in requesting these features be implemented ASAP:

-----

Ability to save track or clip based audio effect user presets.

A Scrub Audio shortcut toggle - NOT a user pref.

Ability to map multiple Keyboard Shortcuts to the same function (a la Avid: E & R keys, same as I and O).  Very convenient for two-handed editors.

Show Match Frame (Add Edit) function.

Heal Match Frame (Add Edit) command.

Dupe Detection indications in Timeline.

Shortcuts to Scale image zoom in Source and Program tabs.

Temporary Snap on or off (AKA Reverse Snap Behavior) keyboard modifier.

More obvious indicator that Timeline Snap is on.

Indicator on Clips in the Timeline that indicate Frame Blend is enabled.

Ripple Sequence and Chapter Markers.

Ripple Audio Track Keyframes.

Ability to save user/custom transition presets.

Constrain clip time movement between tracks by holding shift key, just like all other applications.

Lasso multiple keyframes.

Constrain keyframe values while holding shift key and moving them in time.

Clip Label only works on AV clips.  Not V-only.  Please make it work on V-only clips as well as AV clips.

A Track Matte function that allows us to pan and scale the clip being matted without affecting the matte size or position.  CRITICAL!

Ability to change the dimensions of a Sequence after it's been created.  (Actually, this may be in CS6; I'm not clear.)

Make it possible to solo and mute audio in the Timeline panel; not just the Audio Mixer.

Make it brilliantly obvious when audio tracks are being soloed (or muted); not some tiny little icon that's 1/100 the size of the interface. When you mute or solo a track in the Audio Mixer, that should be indicated in the Timeline icons and tracks as well, perhaps by shading or color, stripes, etc.

Please give us the ability to copy between in/out in a Sequence and paste elsewhere.  Workaround is to add edits (razor) where you want the in and outs before you can copy that region.  Or, you can set in/outs and lift or extract, then immediately undo.  This is a time waster; counterproductive.

No Auto-Saving right in the middle of an operation or playback, please.  Make it wait for a few seconds of inactivity before it kicks in.  No auto-saves when no changes have been made; long periods of inactivity.

Please make all Adobe apps NOT force the computer system to switch to the app that's launching or saving after that operation is compete.  It's VERY ANNOYING to be typing an email and have Adobe switch apps for me when it decides it's ready.  VERY ANNOYING.

Please after using Clip > Scale to Sequence, DO NOT have the new Scale factor in the Motion tab change the clip's scale to 100%.  That's misleading, confusing and I see no good reason for that number to change.  If I'm using a HD clip in an SD Sequence, I want to know exactly how much more I can scale it up before it exceeds the actual scale of 100%.  So, rather than it showing me 100%, it should show 40%, or whatever the real scale factor is.

Provide a way to save TRACK AUDIO FX settings.  I work in a native Sequence to edit, and copy and paste it into an AJA sequence for color correction.  ALL my TRACK BASED AUDIO needs to carry over into the new sequence.  Without a way to save my settings, I have to manually recreate them by jumping back and forth between the old and new sequence.  Time-killer.

Change the paste behavior into a new Sequence to exactly match the track configuration from the "parent" (copy from) sequence.

Have the Program monitor remember the Zoom level for each Sequence; don't have Zoom scale set universally by the project.  When switching between Sequences of different size, we have to reset the Zoom level each time (and with the mouse, too; not a keyboard shortcut).  Time waster.

Consistent Mouse Wheel behavior across all apps in CS, please.  Ae, Au, and Pr have different scroll wheel behaviors.

=====

I intend to submit these to Adobe AGAIN a nanosecond after I discover they're not in Pr CS6.  I hope you will all do the same.  And share your suggestions with us.  Strength in numbers.

Feature Request: Consistently Intelligent Font Lists across all CS Program

$
0
0

Current Problems/Inconsistencies in Font Lists + Suggested Solutions:

NUMBER OF FONTS SIMULTANEOUSLY DISPLAYED:

Premiere Pro (PP): 16 (too few!)

AE: 19 (too few!)

Photoshop: 40 (adequate)

Illustrator: auto-maximizing (displays as many fonts as screen supports, 50 on a 1920x1080 monitor)

*SOLUTION: Make all font lists auto-maximizing like Illustrator!

FONT PREVIEWS:

PP: Yes (6 user selected characters previewed next to font names)

AE: No previews

Photoshop: Yes ('Sample' displayed in each font, but too small for comfortable viewing)

Illustrator: Yes (Each font name is displayed in actual font, but this makes it inconvenient to know the name of 'Dingbat' fonts.)

*SOLUTION: Make all font lists display font names in left column, with 'Sample' displayed in the actual fonts to the right.  When users select any text, replace 'Sample' with the first 1-30 selected characters for instant previewing in all available fonts (e.g. selecting the '&' character would display '&' in all available fonts for easy, instant comparison). Also make font lists resizable with a zoom bar at top of list to ensure comfortable viewing for everyone.

SCROLL BAR:

PP & AE: Yes

Photoshop: Yes (perfect size and color scheme for best visibility)

Illustrator: No (current scrolling method is frustratingly slow!)

SOLUTION: Add a Photoshop style scroll bar to each font list for best visibility/usability.

FONT SELECTING WITH ARROW KEYS:

PP & AE: Yes, by arrow-keying up/down in both the font fields and font lists

Photoshop & Illustrator: Only from the font fields. Highlighting fonts with the arrow keys in the font lists doesn't result in font visualizing.

SOLUTION: Allow PREVIEWING of fonts by arrow-keying up/down in font fields and font lists in all CS programs.  I emphasize 'previewing' instead of 'selecting', since previewing fonts would avoid problem of unnecessary undos being created for each font visualized with the arrow keys. (Note: Arrow-scrolling through the font field in Photoshop's Options bar works as I suggest, by 'previewing' each font without creating unnecessary undos.  Unfortunately, arrow-scrolling through the font field in Photoshop's Character panel does create useless "Set Character Style" History states for every visualized font.  This kind of inconsistency even within a single program is crazy!)

CONCLUSION:

CS programs are all part of the same family, and should therefore behave as such with consistently intelligent tools.  This includes font lists with a consistently intelligent design.

Please comment and share!  Let's get these glaring font list inconsistencies finally fixed!

Universal Counting Leader

$

I am finishing the edit on a film and the final mix sound editor is asking for me to include the universal counting leader and to have the timecode for the movie to start at 00:00.  This means all the upfront counting leader timecode needs to start before 00:00. The counting leader is 11 seconds in length. How can I accomplish this?

How can I get missing files for Classroom in a Book?

I bought Classroom in a Book for Premiere Pro CS 5 and some of the lessons are missing the audio/video that I need to complete these lessons. I know this isn't directly an Adobe problem, but I'd appreciate it if someone knew a place online I could go or someone at Adobe Press I could email to deal with this problem.

Hey

I'm running Premiere Pro CS6 v6, Installed latest updates, Windows 7 64bit, My source footage is H.264 in a .MP4 format. I'm using a Go Pro Hero 3 Black edition at 720P, 120FPS.

Is it possible to create a sequence preset for the Go Pro Hero 3 at 720P 120FPS and/or for all the other Resolutions and FPS?

Three Way Color Corrector Issues

I have been having problmes with the three way color corrector relating to the input and output levels and even just having the effect active on a clip.

Here is what I have with no adjustment and with the effect is active.

No Adjustment_1.jpgNo Adjustment_2.jpgNo Adjustment_3.jpg

When I move the black input level to the max of 253 it darkens the image but doesn't give me any complete blacks.  In the waveform monitor the lowest IRE levels are around 10.

Highest Black Input_1.jpgHighest Black Input_2.jpgHighest Black Input_3.jpg

When I move the black output level to its max there is also not a large enough change to the image. With this I should have blown out whites.  The highest IRE level in the waveform monitor is only about 90.

Highest Black Output_1.jpgHighest Black Output_2.jpgHighest Black Output_3.jpg

When I bring the output white level to its minimum there is also a very similar issue to the other two scenarios.  The minimum IRE level is about 10 in this case.

Min White Output_1.jpgMin White Output_2.jpgMin White Output_3.jpg

I tried all these same things on the Fast Color Corrector and had no problems.

I haven't noticed any issues with the input white level and the input grey level on the Three Way Color Corrector.

The last problem I found with the Three Way Color Corrector is related to just having the effect active even when no adjustments to the Three Way Color Corrector are made.  This issue doesn't happen when Render at Maximum Bit Depth is enabled.  The image gets a greenish tint to it and the problem is also seen in the RGB parade monitor as a slight decrease in blues and reds.

Here is with the effect disabled on the left and enabled on the right.

Comparison_1.jpg

Comparison_2.jpg

Here are some basic system specs:

HP 8710p Mobile Workstation

CPU: Intel Core Duo 2 T7500 @2.2 GHz

GPU: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 320m

4 Gb RAM

750Gb Seagate Monentus XT

OS: Windows 7 64 Bit Ultimate

I am using the Mecury Playback Engine in software only mode because my GPU is not supported and also lacking memory to use the hack.

The footage is H.264 encoded in a .mov container and was shot on a Canon 650d.

I tried the same tests using NTSC DV footage shot on an old Panasonic PV-DV910 and had the same problems.

For now I will be using the Fast Color Corrector for my work since I haven't had any of these issues with it.

Has anyone else had problems with the Three Way Color Corrector and found a solution? I hope Adobe comes out with a fix for this soon.

Edit:  The problems relating to adjusting levels occur with Maximum Bit Depth both diabled and enabled

CS6 Project Manager - Copying Files not advancing

$

Hello,

I am about to travel to Europe and I need to bring a CS6 project with me to continue editing on a laptop.

I choosed "Collect Files and Copy to New Location". Project Manager analyzed the project and started the copying process, although the bar is not advancing and it is now 1h that is stuck at the sasme point.

The external hard drive tha I am using to export the managed project looks like is writing, but in the project manager window the bar is not advancing.

The project I am exporting is a full lenght film, and I cannot use the OSX finder to manually create a managed project due to its complexity.

Here some details about the project:

-Premiere CS6 is running on a 12cores Mac Pro, 64Gb Ram with 6TB internal raid

-The external hard drive I am copying the managed project into is a 2TB Glyph e-Sata hard drive (currently showing signs of writing data)

-The size of the managed project (including 3 sequences) is about 500GB

-I choosed the option to collect files and Copy to New Location (Glyph Drive)

-The footage is a mixed timeline of 4K Red and 5K Epic r3d files

I already tried to abort the process and start ober again, several times but I always end up looking at the Project manager copying files without advancing.

Any idea?

I have a flight in 8h and I cannot leave without this project.

Thanks!!!

Repeating Error message Premiere Pro CS6

Hi,

I'm trying to complete a large project and I'm getting a strange error message repeatedly popping up.

the message says:

'Premiere Pro has encountered an error'

/Volumes/BuildDisk/builds/slightlybuilt/shared/adobe/MediaCore/AudioRenderer/Make/Mac/../../Src/AudioRender/AudioPrefetch.cpp-99

Pressing 'ok' just makes the message re-appear.

I seem to have some functionality with Premiere in the background behind the message.

From the path I can see its something to do with Audio rendering.

Can anybody help please?

(I'm using latest version of CS6 on an imac i7 with latest OS)

thanks

Build a system for CS6 Premier

$

I am building a computer for CS6 Premier and need help with selecting a good main board, CPU and Video card. I do not want to go overboard just want something mid range and reliable. I am retired and helping my son get started with his business as he as many others have lost jobs. This is my first time with a forum so bare with me.

Strange "Whooshing" Sound glitch from Premiere CS6, then horrible errors.

$

About 3 out of 4 times when I try to either play a clip in the timeline, or load an audio clip into the source veiwer, Premiere makes a soft "whoosh" or sighing sound, and completely locks up.  When this happens, ALL sound on my computer goes dead.  I can't play audio from any other program or source.  Usually, Premiere let's me start interacting with it again after 5-10 seconds, and sound generally comes back after 30-60 seconds, but the issue happens again as soon as I try to do anything with my project, and sometimes it requires a hard reset to fix.

This has made editing nearly impossible.  I've been editing video professionally for about 2.5 years, but I'm completely self taught and new to premiere, and I don't know if there's something small and basic I'm totally ignorant of that would fix this.

I'm running  CS6 on a PC with...

Windows 7 64 bit

Phenom II X4 965

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium

8 gig RAM

Plenty of hard drive space

No other open programs

Radeon HD7950 (I know Premiere can't use it).

Why is my video clip being treated as audio only?

I have a video clip recorded in camstudio using the camstudio lossless codec version 1.5. when I import it into premier pro, only the audio track is there. I assume this is because Premier does not know how do decode the video. how can I make it able to deal with the video? and how do I add the correct codec (i have the dll)?

CS6 multicam question

Hi

I am on PPRO CS6.03 on windows 7 and have a question regarding multicam.

I just finished watching the multicam section on the training at lynda.com, but it leaves me with one question though.

I saw how to select the primary angle, and that PPRO would use the audio from that angle to cover the whole edit.

That is ok, but what now if I f.ex. do a concert edit, where I have a separate recording from the soundboard to my audio recorder device, and I want to use this audio for the whole edit?

How do I chose this instead?

Thanks

Ulf

Export MPEG Preview, I-frame codec

$

I'm using Premiere Pro CS6 with a Creative Cloud subscription. I've set up a project to match the MPG settings of my NEX5N camera, IE MPEG I-Frame at 1440x1080, 25P. If I set up an export by "matching sequence settings", those same settings show up in the export, though they're grayed out and can't be modified. This gives me great speed for exporting, since everything stays native.

I'd like to set up a similar export, but at 720P settings for the web. However, I can't find MPEG Preview as one of the export settings, even though it pops up when I match the sequence settings. How can I find this export setting? I'm on a Macbook Air with Mountain Lion, by the way. Thanks!

Burn-in timecode not working CS5.5

Hello!

I'm running Premiere Pro CS5.5 on a Mac with OSX 10.7.1.

When trying to overlay timecode on a video, nothing is showing up in the Program viewer after applying the timecode effect. The effect does appear under the Effects Controls tab and will allow me to make adjustments, but the timecode is not visible on the video. It's as if the program knows what I want to do, but just won't make the effect visible.

I have reinstalled the program and checked that Helvetica is installed.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

can't update

I tried to update PPRO 5.5 (and also Encore) . Both there are2  updates: Adobe application manager and Photoshop Camera Raw. So I tried to update these using the PPRO 5.5 update in help, and the udating started. Then a pop up screen appear: The following problems are found, Installation programm can't initialiation, download Support Advisor to look for the problem. So I did.

Starting this programm , it says:   There was an error updating. Please quit and try again Error code U49M1P1.

So the updating fails,(also when I tried this in Encore),  any suggestion what happens here?

Thanks

Premiere Pro Continues to Stop Unexpectedly

$

I have imported several hours of footage & audio for a feature film. The media didn't have a lot of metadata so I am manually adding the date on the front of the name of each file so relinking will be easier incase media goes offline during the project. In the "Shot" collumn I am labeling each shot after referencing the slate. Pr CS6 continues to shut down unexpectedly. Each time I open it back up it recovers all changes - even if I hadn't saved for a while.

Yesterday I turned of the AutoSave (I save every few minutes as a habbit anyway) and that helped for the rest of the day. Today the problem has come back...I sure hope this isn't somewhere else in another discussion, I couldn't find it though. Thank you for your time and help!
