Render all Transitions and Effects. Why?

I am working on a project in PPro CS 6 and everytime I put down a crossfade I have to render it. Why?

In fact when I put down any kind of effect on a clip or transition between clips, it has to render. 

Do all  transitions  and effects have to rendered?

Is there a seting where I can change this?
