Working with various video codecs and formats

Hello,

I have a general question regarding the concept of Adobe Premiere CS6:

I'd like to start a project in which I can combine various video codecs and formats. I start using sequence presets where I choose a preset which matches my desired resolution, framerate and field dominance.

My question now is: Does it matter at all which codec I choose?

For example, if I choose AVC-Intra or XDCAM-EX: in both cases, the video preview (which is the format in which Premiere renders the timeline preview files, right?) is "I-Frame only MPEG". Is it correct, that at the end, when exporting my sequence, these video preview files are ignored anyway and everything will be rendered from the original files?

If i understand Premiere Pro correctly, this is a totally different approach to Final Cut 7, where I can reuse the rendered timeline files using the "Export Quicktime" function.

Please correct me if my basic understanding of Premiere Pro is wrong.

Thank you very much!

Best regards

Mark
