Does CS6 handle large projects well?

Hey, guys.

I'm currently running CS4 and am starting to consider upgrade options for my editing environment. Quite some time ago (it was before FCP 10) I remember seeing back and forth about FCP vs Premiere. One of the things mentioned was a claim that Premiere didn't handle large projects (e.g. a 90 minute feature film) very well. This, of course, from the FCP guy. CS4 was the latest and greatest at the time. CS6 is a couple of major revs down the line and is also running on a 64 bit architecture so this may not be the case now (I can't say with certainty that it ever was, just repeating what I've read).

Are any of you editing films of this length in CS6 and if so, how's it working for you?

Exporting an EDL from Premiere CS6 that SpeedGrade can read

I have a long sequence which I now want to grade. I didn't grade the individual clips prior to editing them into a 70 minute timeline. I have tried the following without success:

Exporting to SpeedGrade the Premiere timeline: it will do this, but leaves chunks of clips brown, as blank info in the SG timeline, so if I grade this, I'll have an incomplete graded file to apply back to the Premiere timeline;

importing to SpeedGrade a ProRes 422 file which I then asked SG to divide into clips (the app quit after taking 40 minutes to examine the file, which it did successfully, but when I asked it to make clips, it quit)

exporting from Premiere an EDL which I then apply to the QT ProRes file in SG. This is not accepted because there are certain key commands which SG won't accept, but there's no way to know how to export a "clean" EDL from PP to SG without those commands (I even went into the EDL using TextEdit to see if I could delete certain lines, but that was obviously a losing game)

Suggestions welcome!

Is it possible to produce contents compatible with digital theater systems?

Hi,

Does anyone know the technology that is used for movie distribution across digital theaters? I am talking about the specific formats for distribution major label Hollywood movies and how are those contents uploaded (or whatever that process is called) to the digital projector hardware.

Is it possible to use Premiere (or any other Adobe tool) for creating compatible content? If so, what are the specifications for the audio and video?

Best regards.

Shadow/Highlight flickering

When I use the shadow/highlight effect, my image flickers.  I'm using manual settings.  Someone suggested changing black clip to 0%, but that did not help.  Is there another way to use this effect without flicker?

Thanks,

Slow video playback CS6

When playing P2 DVCproHD 24PN codec the video is show to the audio. This is a legacy project that worked in CS 5.5. In a pervious discussion Adobe has stated all raw codes continue to be supported from CS 5.5.

To help find a setting issue let me run through what I have tryed to do for the fix.

Have the sequence match the original footage. Have tried many sequence codec options.

Turn Mercury engine on and off.

Issue is present when looking at the video in: source, sequence, rendered sequence, media browser.

Raw media reimported with Prelude and transcoded as P2 movie has NO playback issue.

Other raw P2 media recorded at 60i has NO issue.

Exported sequence plays correctly.

System Windows 7

HP 8600

8 gigs ram

FX 4800 graphic card

AJA Kona LE+  SDI to Monitor.  Monitor is matching the source and sequence window perfect.

Hope I gave system and problem details.

Thanks  Jim

Audio forced into "Audio 5"

Everytime I drag a video file into my sequence Premier forces the audio into "Audio 5." It also forces any audio files I put into my sequence into "Audio 5" as well, Editing is impossible because Premeir won't let me move my audio files into any other section. All audio is locked in "Audio 5." This must be a bug. Any advice?

Mercury Playback Engine

I have just bought a new laptop with a NVIDA Quadro K2000M graphics card which is supposed to run the Mercury Engine in Creative Suite CS6...however Premiere will not let me switch to hardware from software.  I have never gotten this alleged Mercury Engine to work with any computer or any version of Adobe Premiere.  I am beginning to think it's vapor ware.   What do I need to do to get this Adobe suggested graphics card to work with the Mercury Engine.

Thank you,

How do I export closed-captioned movies from Premiere CS6?

I am using Premiere CS6 (Windows 7) to create a movie with closed captioning. I use the MovieCaptioner software (http://www.synchrimedia.com/) to create the mcc captions dada file. In Premiere I attach the mcc file to a timeline sequence and enable closed captioning display. I can see the movie with captions in the program window. In closed captioning settings I have cc area and service both set to 1. I am having difficulty finding the correct set of parameters that will make Premiere export a movie which includes and displays the captions.

Variable Frame Rate and Audio Sync

$

Hey Everyone,

I imported a bunch of old VHS tapes and done some editing on them. But I now notice that the audio is out of sync.

When I pull the audio in sync on one point, then the audio won't be in sync anymore on another point.

I'm guessing this is due to the variable frame rate. Somethimes it's 26, somethimes 24. Premiere Pro indicates each imported VHS tape as 24,08 FPS or 24,89 FPS.

When I chose to create a new sequence from the clip settings, they audio is also out of sync.

Is there a way to get my audio in sync? When I play the clips in VLC or something, the audio is in sync.

Thanks in Advance and happy Holidays to you all!

I would like to know if it is possible to create a time indicator in my CS5 project.

I'm building a Work-out video and I need a time indicator or clock in the corner of my movie that plays for one minute.

Is this possible to create or insert this in CS5? Does anyone know where I can download such an indicator?

Thanks in advance,

Unable to export to HDV tape

I am trying to export a timeline in CS5 on the mac to an HDV deck attached by firewire 800 cable.  The interface sees the deck and can capture and control it through the device controller.  But, when I go to the export menu, 'tape' is grayed out.  When I export using standard DV, it's fine.   Any ideas as to why?   I will couble check that my sequence is set to be an HDV 1080(30i), but I am confused.

Exporting mpeg-2

I'm using Premiere Pro CS6...my previous version was CS3 so there was a fairly big jump.  I need to export a short film that I made as mpeg2 (so I have both an audio file and a video file) so that I can burn it to a playable DVD.  You used to do this with the mpeg encoder but I'm not seeing that anymore.  I assumed the Adobe Media Encoder was the same thing but I can't seem to figure out how to get the proper file type that I want.  I'm sure it's there and maybe if I play with it enough I'd be able to get what I need but I'm on a sudden time crunch.  I registered the short for  a film festival and now I have limited time to send them the DVD.  I wasn't concerned because I previously never had any trouble with this and wasn't expecting it to be so drastically different from what I'm used to.  I adapted to most other changes in Premiere quite easily.

Please help!

Can you replace damaged frames with Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 ?

Hello everyone! I'm new to Premiere Pro CS6 and don't know all the tricks (no previous experience with video editing). I have a video file that has some damaged frames (it is a VHS-DVD bad quality transferred file). I'm wondering is there is a way to replace the damaged frames with adjacent good ones so the audio is not disrupted (instead of just deleting the damaged frames). Please advise and be gentle . I'm a beginner! Thanks!

I am new at exporting.   When I use the h264 format and it's maximum quality it's a 55 MB file.

When I use the customized Quicktime and then h264, my file is only maxed at 8MB.

I'm trying to figure out how to maximize the size of this :30 commercial for air.

All help is great appreciated.   Thanks in advance.

Overcutting a multi-cam sequence?

$

So... started a wonderful multicam project, my first multicam in Premiere Pro, excited that Premiere Pro would handle it wonderfully, which it did. However, I didn't handle it so wonderfully, not really catching that PPro multicam sequences are nested. Silly me, RFM.

Now I need to overcut a multicam sequence that was created with proxy files. I can't seem to figure a way to get the original HD clip in the source monitor, while having the source timecode from the proxy clip.  I'm sure there is a way. I'm willing to put the time in, I just can't wrap my head around the work flow right now.  Any help/thoughts/ideas? I've read some related threads but haven't seen a solution and I'm not particularly pissed off.

P.S.     CS6, 2012 IMac I7, Mountain Lion (version?) ... everything should be up to date.

Unknown recorder error CS6 premiere pro

$

I know work with CS6 for over 7 months. Always smoothly till this week. I wanted to capture a film via tape (sony HVR-V1E), my system diretly gave the following message: unknown recorder error. I klicked "okay" and gladly, I thought,  it started to capture the whole tape. It looked great on my canvas.

I have edit the film but when I look at the final film on HD TV screen, I see a lot of noise, the footages are in bad shape. Cant sent that to my customer.

Also Premiere Pro crashed a couple of times while editting. It never did that before/

Some extra information. Maybe it has nothing to do with the above mentioned problem but still I want to write it down, one never knows. This is the only thing that is changed on my system:

Working on an iMac (with SSD), Quicktime needed an extra mpeg2 component for footages from a camcorder. Have replace the quicktime with a backup. Does that cost the problem?

I am on Lion Mountain. Have an SSD. The Suite is on the SSD, the footages on another internal drive.

What I have done already to solve this:

- checked google and checked this forum and checked, read and searched for hrs.

- checked if there were faillures on my SSD or the other HD drive (HD2, where I keep my footages)

- Updated my suite

- project sequence is HD 1440x1080

- Checked the footages if they were HD, and they were. (I am in Europe, so in PAL, 25 frames_

File Path: /Volumes/Macintosh HD 2/Video/project/xxxx.mpeg

Type: MPEG Movie

File Size: 67,3 MB

Image Size: 1440 x 1080

Frame Rate: 25,00

Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo

Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo

Total Duration: 00:00:20:16

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1,3333

- firewire is 800 (from camera connected to imac with an adapter from FW400 to FW 800, was never a problem).

- Have checked the above mentioned values with earlier projects and they are the same values. Earlier projects are very clear and really HD, nice to watch.

- loaded the files into iMovie and also into FCP 7. output was the same problem

- exported the final film to H.264

- Exported the final film via Media Encoder

- HD (both) have >125 gig space not used.

- Put the footages on the SSD, thats where PPR is installed

- cleaned the media caches

- checked it on our HD smart TV and the output of the tape is fine, sharp.

What can I try more. Please your help, the deadline is friday.. so I have one day to solve this problem/

Thanks in advance.
