USB microphone is not listed in Premiere's Audio-Hardware drop down

Hello all.

First of all, I would very gladly appreciate any insight here because I'm totally stuck with this trying to record a voice over track.

The title is pretty self explanatory. I'm working on MacOS X and Premiere Pro CS5 and I would like to record an audio track but the USB microphone doesn't show up. I've already read several forum threads and followed the steps but this problem has not been mentioned yet.

This is what I have done several times with no luck:

1- Connect USB and check MacOS recognizes it. It works fine.

2- In Premiere Pro mark track as recording track. Error appears because no input device has been stated.

3- Premiere Pro >> Preferences >> Audio-Hardware ---> no microphones on the drop down menu.

4- So I open Audio Midi Setup and add all microphones to Premiere Pro (Line-In, Built-in and USB device).

5- Back to step 3: Reopen the project >> Preferences >> Audio-Hardware ---> Line-In and Built-in appear, but no USB microphone still.

I have been able to record with the Built-in microphone, but I don't know what's happening to the USB one. In fact, if I go back to step 4 and open the Audio Midi Setup, checkboxes that I had once checked appear unchecked again.

I don't understand what's happening. Thank you in advanced for your help.

I'm currently trying to send out an OMF file to the post sound crew who are using Pro Tools. I have merged clips so AAF currently isn't an option.

When I try exporting an OMF file with the "Encapsulate" setting I always seem to get an error, the error report is as follows:

OMF Export started.

MZ 13 07 26

Make sure your Pro Tools settings match the export settings.

Check below for error messages

Start Time is: 00:00:00:00

ProTools Offset value is: 0:0.000

Frame Rate is: 23.976 fps

You can set this in Track Offset Options in Pro Tools.

Trouble with Create a Multi-Camera Source Sequence

I've followed the Sound Sync and the Multi-Cam Edit videos.  I created a two camera, ext. audio (3 three source) multi cam sequence, and was able to use my exteranal audio, remove the audio from the cameral files, sync all three, and make mulitiple edits between cameras.  When I tried again today with new source, I was not able, (after may attempts) to duplicate my test.  Every time, I would select the three files (2 vid and 1 audio), (got the message '3 Files Selected' in the Source Window, CTRL - Right clicked and got the pull down Menu, selected 'Create a Multi-Camera Soure Sequence', set the Audio button in the pop-up box, and left everything else the same as the Tutuorial, Selection OK, got the Processessing 1,2,3  of 3 Progress box.

When I click on the Source file, I get both video files in the source monitor, but when I drag the Icon to either the New Item Icon in Source or direction into the Timeline (it SAYS 'Drop Media here to create sequence, and that's what the instructor does in the Audio Sych video),

the time line only shows one of the video clips, and not the audio track.

Please help, I know I did this once.

Windows 7 or 8.1 for new laptop?

$

I'm close to buying a new laptop based on a 4th gen i7 and an Nvidia GTX, primarily for general personal use and some home music production. I also need it as a capable emergency/portable CS6 editing backup to my Xeon Win 7 desktop system.  I can choose the new OS.  Is there still any reason for me to avoid 8.1? Are there instead actual benefits to getting it or 8.1 Pro now?  I'm wondering especially in terms of drivers, Premiere's performance and any new Windows features regarding things like system management and security.

Thanks in advance.

Premiere 6.0.5-Various glitching occurs in source window, timeline window, and export.

Hi there!

I have been having a glitching issue for some time now - but it's been happening a lot more recently.  We shoot on only Canon 5D Mark IIIs and I always import my footage straight from the camera.

I've seen other people here with similar issues but nothing quite like mine.  The glitches will appear across footage in the timeline as either black and white, green strips or underlying footage peeking through existing footage which is distorted or pixelated (The footage that appears underneath sometimes isn't even in the general vaciinity of the clip).  Sometimes it'll even be just a frame or two and others at times I've even played the footage and it basically strobes these issues, like flashing black and white over the color footage.

When I usually work, I like to be able to render out my footage and play it at full quality.  I really don't like watching my images at a 1/4 of the speed or 1/2 because it kind of takes me out of the piece a bit.  So I'm an avid renderer and I have the slightest feeling that this is what could be the cause of the glitching at times.  I've done a test where I would mess with a clip that had an effect on it already and rendered, and then I would adjust something that would basically release the render from the clip.  This is when I'd notice the glitch would disappear.  But then again I've seen this even happen on footage I brought in the timeline where all the settings match and they have no effects on it at all.  So I don't know!

Now once I saw this for the first time I went back to my project window and opened the clip to see it in the source window.  Even in the source window, it has this issue.  But when I go to the footage, which is living on my computer,  the raw footage is just fine...so this is definitely a Premiere issue.

Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas at all.  I've tried playing the footage at a lower rez and it still does it.  These issues are carrying over into my export and at times when I need something done immediately, this is a big obstacle.  Please help!  Thank you!!

Best way to add 4:3 bars to a 16:9 project in Premiere Pro

$

Currently I'm working on a project in PP which has both dslr 16:9 hd footage and hd scanned cine film (also in the 16:9 format but with black bars either side). Being cine film it's original ratio is 4:3 thus the bars.

In Final Cut Pro I just used to use two black matts in the timeline. Dragging and dropping them either side and on top of the main video tracks. That way the scan and dslr bars would match perfectly throughout and I could customize the size allowing as much of the original cine film frame to be on show as possible. Also I could keyframe the dslr footage so if anything of importance was concealed under the matt at a particular time I could just slid the wider 16:9 frame from side to side without dropping resolution. The only real downside to this was it used up two extra video tracks which often required a render.

I'm just wondering if there is a way I can create custom black bars  in premiere pro? Possibly just using one video track throughout? Or is there an even simpler way of doing this?

All the best

Cutting commercials in hd fil

I bought a Hauppague PVR to record hi def from my cable box. I want to cut out the commercials and keep the hi def. Will Premiere Pro do this?  Also, I want to shrink these files.  Will Premiere Pro do this?  Is it simple to do these things?

So I had the director/producing of a project make some quick rough cuts to accelerate my effects and editing work. I have all the footage on my side and I FTPed the project and linked everything fine. The problem is, I think the metadata that defines subclips is embeded in the actual media files. I get the bin of cuts he made, but the clips when dragged to the timeline come in whole instead of cut. I think the solution, avoiding having to send 40GB of .mov files would be the have the .xmp sidecar, but the .mov format gets the data embedded by default. How can I transfer this metadata over so the cuts are intact the way the producer intended?

How should set the sequence to edit in both formats on a single timeline?

Double problem with generating timecode and offsetting start timecode.

Hi,

I seem to be having two issues with generating timecode. I'm using Premiere Pro CS6 on Mac OSX 10.9.1. Here's what I've done:

I've offset the starting timecode of my sequence to 00:59:58:00. I have a two pop at this point, them my audio and video begin at 01:00:00:00. Everything's fine so far. I placed an adjustment layer on Track 2 and stretched to the length of my sequence. I placed the Timecode effect on the adjustment layer. I set the proper frame rate (24fps), which I've double checked to be sure that is my sequence rate. I chose "generate" as the timecode source and set the starting timecode option to 00:59:58:00, just like my sequence.

Here's issue #1: The timecode displays in the program monitor at 01:00:01:14 at the beginning of the sequence and remains 3 seconds and 14 frames out of sync for the entirety of the sequence. There is no option for drop-frame or not, but if that were the issue, it shouldn't be off an entire 3 and a half seconds at the beginning of the sequence.

Issue #2: Any point in my sequence where I have keyframed a video clip to 0% opacity, the timecode also fades out - which should happen. But, begins and ends fading 3 seconds and 14 frames after the clip begins and ends fading. I should mention that this happens even when my timeline and start timecode settings are set to 00:00:00:00.

So, any ideas why I am out of sync?

As an aside, what are folks doing to combat the timecode fading during blackouts. I'd prefer this not happen - my solution for now has been to place the adjustment layer on track 3 and place black video on track 2.

Sorry for all the questions, but thanks for all the help!

Edit: I should mention that the "offset" in the timecode effect controls is set to zero - I have only changed the "start timecode" parameter.

Noisy Transitions

There seems to be a new bug with the 7.2 update, such that audio transitions applied to the beginning of a clip will produce a very loud buzz, but only when you play from before the start of that clip.  If you start playback at the beginning of that clip, it seems to work fine.  It also does not seem to affect audio transitions between clips, or at the end of clips.

I'm seeing this using AVCHD media on Windows 7.

How to take out a negative cutlist after editing on a telecine video?

$

A film was shot on film stock @ 24 FPS.

I have a one light telecine video of the rush @ 25 FPS.

How do I edit the rush on Premiere Pro CS6 keeping in mind that I don't generate virtual frames (i.e. 24 frames on the time line corrosponds to 24 physical frames on the negative).

After editing, I need a cut list, i.e. a text document output with TCs and corrosponding edge code marks to refer to, while cutting the original negative.

The same task can be done by conforming the video to 24 via Cinema Tools while working on FCP. I need the solution for Premiere Pro.

Thanks a lot.

Problems with Premiere

Hi,

I've been having problems since the last Premiere Pro CC update.

1) After rendering with Adobe Media Encoder Premiere crashes. If I try to render more then one format also Encoder crashes (it actually crashed my whole system and I had to reboot with power button). Reboot sometimes works.

2) Sometimes the clips cant be selected or moved on the timeline. I have to scroll the timeline so that the clip disappears and scroll back in, then it works again.

My Adobe is acting weird

So my Adobe Premiere started doing something weird since yesterday ...idk if I touched something or not :/...

I start my project with "new sequence from clip" and all the clips I selected (videos .mp4 recorded with my canon) go automatically in the sequence...

however after that if I try to add another one, or even one of them dragging it again to the sequence it doesn't let me and it shows just the audio

but obviously it can read the video because at the beginning of the project it showed.

So now if I forget to select a clip at the beginning I have to start again...so annoying !

Please help!
