Is my 4K proxy file(s) supposed to take hours to make?

Hi there,

I have a Macbook Pro (13 inch 2015 model, 3.1 GHZ intel core i7, 16 gbs memory) that is taking a long time to process proxy files in Premiere Pro 2017 11.0.

I have a 12 minute clip and the render time is over an hour using any of the defaults on the ingest menu. I also can't toggle between the 4k and the proxy while it's creating the proxy, as its still clunky. In fact the whole computer is clunky while this is rendering the proxy.

Is this normal?
