Preview Render activity becomes inactive shortly after it starts - need to switch apps for before it becomes active again

Hi, I'm currently editing a music video in Premiere using dynamically linked comps in after effects. Once I'm finished with the AE comps and I go to Premiere to render clips (or the whole project in-out) Premiere will start to render previews as normal but shortly after it starts the render activity stalls. I then have to switch apps/desktops and go to the AE project and come back to Premiere (I have Premiere in one desktop and AE in another) in order for Premiere to sort of wake up again and continue rendering. Otherwise it just freezes. When I look at the Activity Monitor App (Mac) I can see that once I start rendering After Effects will allocate a good chunk of the CPU activity (60+%) only to suddenly drop to 10 or even 5% just after a couple of seconds. I've allocated 13 RAM out of my 16 RAM to be shared between Premiere and After Effects. It seems like after a couple of seconds it just freezes up, or like the RAM decides to stop working on its current course. As if I were putting to sleep the RAM activity. It is fixed by just quickly toggling desktops back and forth but it is very annoying as it forces me to have to do this non stop and sometimes render times take a while. I basically can't leave my computer rendering cause it won't do it unless I'm constantly moving between desktops and refreshing apps. Any ideas/solutions?

I would love to be able to start rendering and be able to go do something else and come back to a finished rendered timeline. Is that too much to ask? God help me.

GoPro N00b needs Export Settings

I'm recording mountain bike videos using a GoPro Hero 5 Session recording at 2.7K 30 FPS.

I looked up a lot of videos in my "research" for best exporting settings in Premiere Pro. I went with what was most common between a bunch of different videos. Most of them were saying the same stuff. The Main thing (I think) I'm hung up on is CBR vs. VBR 2 Pass. (Everyone says VBR 1 Pass is pointless.)

I was using CBR first, and that exported a lot faster. (Uploading to Youtube is a whole other thing. That took 12 hours for this 25 minute video.) Once I stumbled upon the VBR 2 Pass option, I tried that. I exported in both CBR and VBR 2P to see if I could spot the difference. I couldn't tell it apart but 90% of people say VBR 2 Pass is the best quality. (However they're also filming with LEGIT cameras and not Go Pros?) I thought, Ok.... maybe the difference will be when I upload it to YouTube. Maybe that's where I'll see the difference. But in that case, I'd have to upload two videos and play them side to side... I originally said no to that. Too much work and time Uploading. I then deleted one of the files. I wish I didn't. So today's video I'm exporting in VBR 2P, it is only 10 minutes long and incredibly simple with very few files although it has a highlight effect on the wole video. It took 8 hours and that's with it being rendered previously to Exporting. So I started researching again. Trying to find faster ways to Export.

One thing is "smart rendering" but that's not an option because it isn't yet formatted for encoding MP4.

The other hot tip was to Queue stuff instead of Export it. Queuing stuff sends it to Media Encoder to do. However, mine isn't functional.

I also realised that my copy of PP is installed on the Solid State Drive but I've been saving things to the Hard Drive. So I thought maybe that was slowing things down? So then I cancelled this Export and Saved it to the Solid State thinking I can just move it later and it made no difference.

I guess the last thing is... My Target Bit Rate. That was a big discrepancy with most people. The Max Bit Rate hovered between 32 and 40 for most so I put mine at 35. But some people had their Target at 8, or 16, or 32. I decided to go with 16, that's the YouTube suggested one. I don't know if that's what's making a difference. One guy just had them both set to 32...

I want the best quality, first and foremost, but I also need to find the fastest way to export without sacrificing quality. I'm afraid i'm going overkill right now and wasting a lot of unnecessary HOURS exporting for a 10 minute video. I have 2 hour videos planned... This isn't going to cut it.

Shooting in 2.4K, Exporting in 1080 - is that ok?

I'm recording mountain bike videos using a GoPro Hero 5 Session recording at 2.7K, 30 FPS.

I don't know anything about anything... I'm just doing this because it was suggested in my research.

I'm exporting for Youtube 1080HD. Should I just shoot in 1080 to begin with? What difference will it make?

Font changes after changing Text

Updated to the latsest version of CC on the 17th October 2018 and since then iv had problems with a font being changed automaticly with no way of changing it, tried uninstaling Premiere, reverting back to old version, re installing the fonts everything!!!!!

so here goes ...

I have a title created in After Effects with a specific font (Comic Sans) saved as an  "aep" file

I import the Title into Premiere Pro, and go to change the text for the title...

As soon as i type the new text the font changes to Ariel

this is only since i updated otherwise when ever i used to change the text it would stay at Comic Sans, iv tried reverting to the previous version of After Efects and Premiere and it comes up with unable to open your project as it was saved in a new version of Premiere pro!!

Premiere Pro Not Importing Any Files

$

Hi,
I'm not sure what's going on, but PP will not import any files whatsoever.  I updated PP two days ago, and my iOS a week or two ago.  I've cleared the cache, deleted all backup files I no longer need, and even done a clean sweep of old files on my computer.  I've tried importing less files (5 clips compared to the 100 I tried the first time) and I've restarted my computer as well.
PP worked 2 days ago when I put a film together, so I'm not sure what's going on.  I can't cancel the import, because the little beach ball is just wildly spinning.  I've forced PP to quit 4 times, tried to start a new project as well as open the one I started first (though it doesn't matter, there's absolutely nothing in either file).  I've been searching the internet for a the last four or five hours and I'm coming up empty-handed.  Anyone here have any ideas on what I can do to get these imports?

Upgrading from Premiere 2014.2 version to current Premiere 2019

Hi! Just realised I'm still on version Premiere 2014.2 (not sure why as always click updates??!) .... so I want to upgrade to current Premiere. Two questions:

1. Are there any issues or risks I should take into account?

I've been checking out some audio issues recently online and have read that some Premiere project audio files get lost when doing a Premiere upgrade with a big jump across versions - is there any proven and tested advice about this issue with audio files? Or any other issues with upgrading? I have several important projects that I am currently working on and it would be a big problem if the project files got disrupted.

2. How can I ensure that my version of Premiere gets automatically upgraded?

Best

Chris

PP CC 2019

PC, Windows 10

Sequence A is a multicam wedding dance.

Sequence B is a feature film.

Four clips from Sequence A are showing the "Media Offline," graphic.

When I right click the offline clips Link Media and Make Offline are greyed out.

I don't know how to get the previously selected clips of Sequence A to show back up.

I also don't know what clips they were, as they were edited by someone else.

Please help me out. Thanks!

Premiere stock video nightmare. files wont link and go off line after purchasing

So I created 2 different videos all from stock, sent it to the client for approval and got approval. I heard it was extremely easy to just click the shopping cart button and whalla the watermark disappears. Nope been charging the clients bank account with still watermarked footage, sometime they disappear but now most of the clips are now offline. and half of the approved clips are coming up with a licensing error notification "Sorry, something went wrong while trying to license the video. Please try again"

I've already called adobe they have been no help just resetting preferences and they don't know how Premiere works with stock. I have already signed in and out of Creative Cloud, restarted my computer. The deadline is in 2 hours and I'm having to recreate the missing clips in my timeline.

Has anyone ever had this issue? THanks in advance.

Not able to batch re-link video files after converting team project to regular project

$

Hello!

I have recently converted some team projects to regular premiere projects and am finding that once that is done the file path is missing and batch re-linking is not possible. The only way I am able to re-link seems to be clip-by-clip (I named the bins in the project by camera so I am still able to easily find my clips despite the file path being missing - however since batch re-link is disabled it is proving to be way too time consuming to re-link clip by clip).

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue?! Thanks in advance!!!

Inserting multiple extra frames

$

Hi I have a question!

Im making a stopmotion and im wondering if it is possible to add extra frames every other frame. So what I mean is that I have 100 frames, and after the 2nd, 4th, 6th etc. I want to insert an extra frame. Not just insert a frame. I have the frames I want to insert already in a sequence. Is this possible to do? I really don't want to do it manually because that would be a LOT of work.

Thanks!

Video playback and scrubbing glitching, skipping and strobing

$

When I import a video into Premiere, and try to play it, it's very glitchy.

I would press play, and the video playback would be super laggy, but on top of that, different frames from other parts of the video would strobe (See below:).

strobing1.gif

Also, I cannot scrub smoothly - it would strobe different frames from the video. On top of that, if I was to place my scrubber halfway through the video, it would show frame 1 of the video, and play the video from the start, despite my scrubber being halfway through. When I would trim the video, it would strobe again, and often just play the clip from the start. (See below:)

strobing3.gif

Hopefully I've made sense - its a odd issue.

Things I've tried:

-Reinstalling Premiere 2019

-Reinstalling an older version (2017)

-changing the video type (from .mov to .mp4)

-changed from 'Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration' to 'Mercury Engine Software Only'.

My computer specs:

-ASUS Strix SCAR II Gaming Laptop, GeForce GTX 1070, 8GB, i7 8th Gen

Other things to note:

-rending out the video is also glitchy, strobes and skips.

-The original video plays smoothly in video players, so I do not think its an issue with the video.

-The videos were taken on iphone7.

Please - any help would be greatly appreciated. Its almost brought my workflow to a grinding halt. My last option would be to just use After Effects to deal with my videos, however this isn't preferable.

Thanks

OpenCL rendering engine available but not CUDA

Hi dear friends.

I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2019 on my Windows 10 laptop (ASUS N501jw) which has Nvidia GeForce 960M graphics on board. When I create a project, The rendering engine is chosen as Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Open CL). I'm wondering shouldn't it be CUDA? Is my gpu being used in right way?

48 khz and 44,1khz in the same timeline

I have a sound / music problem.

My timelines are typically with 48 kHz audio tracks because I use sony fs7 for pictures and interviews. But my music service uses 44.1khz.

When I cut everything is fine, but when I export, the music can "jump" where I made a clip in it.

Until now I have transcoded the music into 48 khz, but it is frustrating.

What should I do ?

I use a focusrite scarlett sound card, on my desktop PC (windows 10)

Audio Gain FORCING Peak Amplitude Calculation BEFORE input

Calculating.jpg

Adobe Premiere CC 2019

Why are we now forced to have a Peak Amplitude Calculation BEFORE making any selection or input?

On huge projects, this is such a HUGE productivity killer as it takes several MINUTES to complete for a single action that used to be almost instantaneous. If it doesn't take minutes, Premiere Pro CC 2019 just crashes.

I need to be able to input my settings FIRST.

Please remove this forced setting.

Program monitor keeps going black in Premiere Pro CC

PC - Premiere Pro CC - AMD Fire Pro (13.101-130604a-158071E-ATI)

I'm working on a project and the program monitor keeps going black in Premiere Pro CC while I am working on the timeline. I've got like 28 GB of memory alocated to the program and just updated the latest driver for my video card. No clue why this keeps happening, but the only way I can get around it is to restart. When I go to close down the program freezes and I have to shut it down in the system preferences.

Under a crazy deadline if you can help? Thanks

Premier Pro Performance Issues

$

Hi,

We are having numerous performance issues within Premiere Pro, which all look to have started in December.

Previously, PC ran perfectly fine with the same footage and compiling etc., but only recently started occurring. The PC will shoot up to 100% CPU usage at times, but other hardware is not maxed out (e.g. RAM only using 10GB of 16GB, GPU hardly being used, Disk fine)

The issues we notice are glitchy or laggy video, unable to skip through the timeline (we can skip forward, but the video still shows video from previous location on the timeline), stuttering video or video locking up altogether

We have:

  • Tested on 3 machines, same issue
  • Tried various playback settings e.g. half quality playback and quarter
  • Tried different rendering options e.g. turn CUDA off
  • Rolling back to previous versions of Premiere
  • Updating and rolling back Graphics Driver
  • Full reinstall of CC and Premiere
  • Full OS re-install

The above has had no effect, and the issue persists for us.

PC specs are:

i7 7700K

Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3

16GB DDR4 2400Mhz RAM

Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SATA3 SSD

Geforce GTX 1070

I find it hard to believe the hardware is not adequate, as it was working fine previously and meets the requirements as far as I can find. We are at a loss as to where to go forward from here.

Is anyone else coming across similar issues?
