"Trim: Sequence" panel. What's it for (in context) and when to use?

$

I've been jumping back and forth between several tutorials and I'm setting up my initial workspace based on what I've been learning. I know it will eventually evolve but the tutorials are giving me enough info to put together a nice starting point. One panel that hasn't been discussed is the "Trim: Sequence" panel. How often is it used and for what purpose? The only think I can intuit is if one want to use a portion of a sequence in another project and doesn't want to re-edit a knew one based on the same clips. As such I can't see it being used very often. Am I warm?

Thanks in advance.

Titles - Scale in Timeline not in line in title preview

Hi

I have the following issue which I hope someone may be able to recommend a solution.

First title created in Title in Premiere CS6 on a PAL widescreen formatted timeline was OK. But when second title made using the 'new title based on current title' - the second title when placed on the timeline is outside the safe margins and distorted. I have rebooted the system but the same issue arises. See screen shot below. Any assistance would be appreciated!

Thanks

Capturing 1080P 60fps Aja Kona 3G speeding video up

First time posting... hopefully it can be solved because I am at wits end.

I am looking to capture 1080P60 off of an iPhone through HDMI using and HD-SDI converter with the Aja Kona 3G card (it saves it as an MOV format in Premiere). The capture portion in Premiere works great until it hits 12 GB of RAM and then the video speeds up disproportionally until the end of the capture/offload to HDD. This usually happens about 30-40 seconds in.  I know this is an extremely hot signal coming off but that is what I need. I know it’s not a RAM or system issue because it is a blazing machine with plenty of RAM and HDD space using RAID0. When I try to capture 720P video it records the video fine until around 18 GB of RAM and then does the same thing. Is there some limitation to the format I am using or capture or is it something I am doing wrong? The card doesn’t have many settings to change an input signal in Premiere so to me options are limited…

System:

Intel I7-3.20 GHz

10TB RAID0

64GB RAM

Aja Kona 3G capture card

The thread for good things about Premiere CC

I know that people will use these forums to communicate complaints about the new Preimere CC, or to ask questions about things that have changed and become confusing.  People who are happy with the new software, however, may not be inclined to start a new thread to say so.  So this thread is specifically for communicating things about Premiere CC that are noticablely better than in earlier versions.  I, for one, need this information as much as the criticism in making my decision about whether to upgrade or not.

When I try to use Premiere Pro CC's online help or keyboard help, I get a message that reads "Unable to display online help. Connect to the internet and try again. For more information see, http://www.adobe.com/go/offline_help".

I have confirmed that I am connected to the internet, and all my other non-adobe software is functioning just fine.  Any suggestions?

How is it possible Premiere still cannot handle variable frame rate video?

Variable frame rate video comes from many places these days: phones, live streamed video recordings.

Adobe Premiere is a supposedly production level piece of software that cost a good chunk of change.

How is it 2012 and Adobe does not still have an answer to this problem?  After trying to editing/convert/mux/edit variable frame rate videos for the past 5 hours I am just exhausted.  No amount of conversion apps, etc have saved us and THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TOO.

We have spent thousands on Adobe software packages over the last decade, probably 10s of thousands, and the only answer I find consistently is to switch to Vegas.

Surely, SURELY someone at Adobe with real insight into the issue can help answer the question of whether users moving into different medium should find a place elsewhere in the software ecosystem...

Premiere Pro CC for Mac introduced a viral memory leak

$

I have been editing an important new project in Premiere Pro CS6 with a deadline of tomorrow to take a trailer down to the L.A. Film Festival.  An option to download the new CC versions of the Adobe products seemed interesting, especially as I could continue to work with the CS6 version.  However, having downloaded several of the CC versions (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, AE, amongst others) it now seems that there is a serious memory leak.  I watch my memory meter (32Gb installed, Intel i7 machine with applications running off an SSD) drop from 87% to 0% over the course of about 7 minutes.  And according to the memory meter, all used memory is going to Premiere Pro.

Bigger problem.  There must be some shared library or application files because now the same thing happens in Premiere Pro CS6.

This is a real issue.  A once in a lifetime opportunity has arisen and Premiere Pro has really screwed it up for me.  The application is unusable.

When will there be some accountability for this issue at Adobe and, more importantly, an urgent fix?  Perhaps it was a mistake, after all, to switch from FCPX...    Is there AVID in my foreseeable future?

720p 120fps clip from GoPro Hero3 Black not recogniced by Premiere Pro CS6

Hello. My clip from Hero3 Black Gopro isn't recognized as a 120fps clip. I've read people saying that this is normal because premiere pro won't recognize them for anyone.. But it does, look at this clip:

http://youtu.be/YeHCUNH4KcM

At around second 30 it shows how it recognizes that the file is actually 120fps, in that same screen, I get that the file is 59,94fps and not 120fps and it really is.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you.

Nothing Offline In the Project but the video which is pending on Ae linked files

I have a project that was finished and exported last week. Everything went just fine.

To day i was asked to switch a shot and when i opened premier cs5 everything loaded accept the linked AE comps. I have a screen that says "Media pending" every where that i round-tripped to Ae.

The media in the assets window is there and is not italacized to indicate it is missing. It will load into the sorce monotor. In the source monitor it will show but it plays much like it is unrendered.

The project is huge for a 1m spot i would guess about 50gigs with stills linked comps and 4 tracks of audio. Even when i was finishing the spot it was starting to lag.

All of the media was 1080p24 .mov from the gh3.

here is a screen shot.

Are the ProRes codec and .MOV file no longer supported?

$

I posted the following over at Creative Cow with no luck... hopefully I can get answers here ...

I am on a MAC - I joined the Adobe bandwagon during the great FCP migration of 2011 ... So far it's been great but...

Both Premiere CC AND After Effects CC are not recognizing Pro Res ...heck it doesn't seem like they are recognizing QUICKTIME in general (both progams are rejecting a .MOV I have with the animation codec) ...

When I try and open up a CS6 sequence in CC I get a message saying "The preset used by one or more of the sequences in this project requires third party components that could not be located." When you click ok just to get the project open, the media is offline.

When I try and IMPORT a .MOV into Premiere CC I get "The importer reported a generic error."

When I try and IMPORT a .MOV into AE cc I get "Cannot be imported- this 'MooV' file is damaged or unsupported.

When I try a test render out of AE cc the default Format is Quicktime, but when you go to the Video Output Format Options the Video Codec has the number "0" instead of a list of codecs .... and when you click on the "0" it changes to "-1". Seriously there are NO codecs listed in the Options - No ProRes, No Animation, just the number zero.

Media Encoder obviously is essentially the same story.

This seems to be a Quicktime thing ... not JUST a ProRes thing.

CS6 has no problems working with my Mac and QT/ProRes ... so I know it's not my machine...

I really don't feel like calling India today to process a refund, but if I can't get this working on my Mac I dont need to pay for Adobe CC.

Adjustment Layers and Nested Sequences

$

Why don't Adjustment Layers applied to a Sequence affect Nested Sequences created from the sequence with the Adjustment Layer?  As an example, suppose you have a sequence with footage from a three camera shoot and you want to apply color correction to all three cameras so you create an Adjustment Layer and apply the filter to it on the top most video track.  It works as expected on the camera footage.  If you then create a nested sequence and enable multi-cam editing, the filter from the adjustment layer has no effect on the footage now that it is in the nested sequence.  For my purposes, this feature is of very little use because if you apply the adjustment layer above the nested sequence, it affects titles and transitions which sometime have there own color elements that you don't want changed.  Anyone else experienced this?

Problem with video clips after restart

When i cut a large videoclip into smaller clips, all of the clips show the same video after

restarting Premiere Pro. Every clip shows the beginning of the large clip that has been cut.

The video is from a Sony EX1R / MP4 (H.264). And the clip is 30 Min. long an was split

during record into two clips (for example 100_1 and 100_2) as displayed in the Projektbrowser.

That is very frustrating and i hope you can help me?

Thanks a lot,

Why does my exported video appear jittery

$

Hi,

I created a video and put title sequences, added a logo, cross fades and cutting on it. It all looked great on the preview, but when I exported it H.264, MPEG 4 PAL it has come out looking jittery. This is especially noticable on logos and on subtitles. I'd really looked for hours on how to resolve this and then thought! Ah! the good people of the internet, they will help - so uploaded it to youtube, and on you tube it looks fine !?! No movement.

I am totally perplexed. I need to export this for dvd at somepoint, and obviously sending this to clients without a youtube link is also dodgy.

I have tried sending it to a collegue, they also get it jittery.

Any advice? - is it  settings for export, settings for import?

I really am stumped.

Any help would be appricated.

Thanks,

Lucy
