Export to HQ DVD very poor quality

$

Hi all,

I've been trying to export to an HQ DVD, meaning I've chosen the highest settings, ending up with a 5552Mb File for 75 mn... which I believe would be enough to have a very high "normal"definition .

ok I know it wouldn't fit but I burned 10mn of timeline with these settings, to check, and the quality is very poor. I believe as bad as a VHS second generation copy... My titles appear like a very low photoshop jpg compression, and all lignes and shapes are surrounded by some kind of compression artefacts not acceptable even in normal def. (not mentioning the interlaced lines at the edit point when the clip has been altered in size or color etc...) You get the picture...

I had a look at the calculator, that is not much help finally when exporting from premiere.

What I want to do is export my (xdcam hd 50mbps 1080 50i).mxf timeline to a beatiful dvd that everybody can play....

Should I go for a third party encoder?

Also, It seems that when I export and burn through Encore, I get a slightly vertically stretched frame, that ellipses the perfect circles I have on the timeline. Although I respect the pixel ratio of 1.0, 16.9 screen... wide screen etc... I always get this stretching. (Playing the file from the pc is correct.)

What puzzles me is to see some nice SD DVDs around, burnt from HD files and I'm not able to get at least the same results from a broadcast approved camcorder and premiere CS6.

Export settings are:

Intermittent problem after launching Premiere Pro CS6.0.2 - audio pitch dropped and video staggering

Intermittent problem after launching Premiere Pro - all audio is lower in frequency by very noticeable amount and video keeps dropping back a few frames every few seconds, apparently trying to keep in sync with slower audio.

This does not happen consistently, perhaps every 5 or 6 launches. Otherwise program works normally after launch and sometimes a quit and relaunch will fix the problem.

Have submitted bug report but wondered if anyone else having the same problem?

When syncing by audio, what's happening when I offset the audio frames from the video frames?

$

Hi there,

I was looking around for official documentation on this, but couldn't find any.

I'm thrilled that the new Premiere Pro CC (7.0.0) can sync by audio. I can cut out PluralEyes from my workflow entirely. I'd just like to know what's happening when I modify the numerical value for "Offset audio by _ video frames" when I generate a new multi-camera source sequence.

Operators of older DSLRs, like the T2i, 5D Mk II, and 7D, know that these cameras' own internal audio tracks are out of sync with their video, usually having their video tracks lag behind their audio tracks by a single frame or two, depending on the camera.

Does this feature actually offset video and audio within a clip that has its audio and video tracks linked? Does it look for isolated audio tracks that have no video associated with them and simply offset those from the video clips that do have audio? I noticed that isolated audio tracks are automatically moved to A1 and are soloed, so they seem to have special priority.

Also, which direction does the offset move the tracks? I'm assuming I can put in positive or negative values and get different results.

Adobe Media Encoder CC Fails To Dynamically Link Embedded AE Comps Within PR.

When launching a PR project in Media Encoder to kick off a render.  The dynamic link engine loads the PR sequence just fine but during the render it fails to read any clips that were "relaced with AE comp", instead inserting an "offline media" plate.  Launching the PR project and reviewing as well as rendering from within PR works fine.  Please note that this worked fine in Adobe Media Encoder CS6.

*****Edit

In doing some tests to consistently replicate the problem, it turns out that AE CC has to be open WITH the replaced clip comps loaded at the time PR OR Media Encoder is running with projects that contain the "replaced with AE comps" footage.  Repeating the test with AE CC closed at the time yields the "offline media" result.  This is definitely a bug I'd say.  AE should not have to be launched with the project files loaded up in order for any dynamically linked comps to work.

****Edit

Please note the entire product chain is CC.  Thank you.

Why is there no Batch Export of multiple clips from Premiere CS6?

This is a no brainer.  Every other NLE has had this for at least a decade, yet PP CS6 makes you INDIVIDUALY export clips rather than sending them as one batch. What a time waste for someone looking to move to CS6 from FCP and finding it's slower.

Using dynamic link for projects with hundreds of shots...

I have been wondering about this. And now I'm on the brink of moving a project with around 125 shots into AEcc. But I'm a bit hesitant on what direction I should take. Because.. if I go through with the wrong workflow and it falls apart 50 shots in... I'm looking at quite a lot of redundant work that has to be redone.

So if I have, like in this case. A project where I need to pull through a sequence of around 100+ shots into AEcc. What would you guys recommend?

Right now, I'm looking at a few option:

  1. Standard, one AE project per shot and render each shot individually. I know this works, but it's a bit laborsome.
  2. Dynamic Link on a massive scale. Sounds flexible in theory. But how do I keep it manageable with all of the precomps that are needed? And I am not all that convinced that it will turn out to be so efficient.
  3. Open the PPro project inside AE and do it all in there. Though it becomes rather hard to re-edit once in there. And it is kindof hard to make sure that the 5.1 mix comes through allright. And I can't go back to premiere...

The project is basically an animated short where the 2D-animation was done in Flash and then exported as PNG's which are then timed and looped and otherwise fiddled with in PPro. Now I need to overlay all of this onto the live action video backgrounds. Doing some compositing tricks to make it feel a bit nicer. And this is why I need to do pretty much all of the shots in AE.

Again. I am going to have to pick one and stick to it, because I don't want to realize that I picked the wrong method halfway through...

If you know of a better workflow, I am all ears...

Selecting different parts of timeline issues

$

So I've been living with it, but it's time to post about it because I think it's an issue.  Sometimes when I want to select a point on the timeline (and I don't mean scrubbing), it will take a few seconds to register the image.  This I am fine with, as different effects and other GPU intense effects need time to display if it wasn't rendered.  The thing I can't stand is that when I move to such a point on the timeline, wait a second, then move to another point on the timeline...it's as if Premiere is still working on the previous preview and the cursor "jumps" back to the previous point when it's ready to display.  Sometimes I try several times over and over and it keeps jumping back to the previous place.  I think it would be REALLY great if Premiere would not do that.

By the way, setting paused and/or playback resolution to 1/4 doesn't help...it still doest it.  I also know that rendering the timeline would fix it, but again I'm okay with it taking a sec to display a GPU intensive part of the timeline, but I when I give up and select a different part it would be nice NOT to have the cursor keep jumping back.

Any thoughts would be great.

I just installed Premiere Pro CC trial on my Mac Pro 1.1, but the keyboard shortcut simply don't work. Is there a magic trick to activate them? I've done all the obvious stuff like going to PREMIER PRO - > keyboard shortcuts... etc. and also in the Mac keyboard preferences, but can't see the problem. Any suggestions please?

THanks!

Is anyone having this MAJOR issue with Premiere CC?

$

I just started using Premiere CC. The first feature I used was the multicam. I edited a multicam sequence, then closed Premiere. Later, I went back into Premiere and at a point about halfway through, some video files from one camera angle are completely out of sync. In fact, it appears as if they start at the beginning of the angle and play out form there.

I thought it was something I did, so idiot me, edits the whole thing again. Looks fine, plays back fine, but when I close and open it up again, same thing happens. This time, the point where the one angle goes out of sync changed, but again, it appears the angle starts over from the beginning.

So, I started doing some tests, and sure enough it seems like a major bug.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I am going back to CS6 in the meantime to avoid any more heartbreak, but just wondering what the heck is going on with this software.

MPEG2 MXF IMX PAL export problem

$

Hello!

This is new for me (IMX PAL) so I do not know it is a bug or a simple user error.

What went wrong? My steps:

1. Export a video from AE in YUV 422 avi format

2. Import it to PPro (Black Magic Design PAL preset)

3. Export it to desired IMX 50 SD PAL MXF.

4. Then import this MXF to recheck it before delivery.

I was shocked. Colors were altered in a strange way comparing with original video.

Trying to find out what is wrong I exported again to MXF but this time to XDCAMHD PAL preset and this time colors were OK (but of course not desired format). So it seams that only MXF IMX PAL is "affected" on my system. After this I decided to make a simple image of my problem.

This is one frame from timeline with composition of original bars and tone, exported avi YUV422, MXF IMX 50 PAL and MXF XDCAMHD 50 PAL.

All files imported back to PPro timeline and exported as a tga frame. You see, only IMX PAL is wrong.

IMX SD PAL problem_small.jpg

This may be isolated to my system only so before contacting Adobe support I want to ask if somebody could check this for me.

Thank You!

Robert Falkowski, MM Studio.

gamut/level shift exporting to IMX (PAL) in .MXF OP1a

Hi Forum.

Actually this thread describes the same problem that I have:

I export from PPro CS6 timeline to MXF OP1a, with the IMX 30 PAL or IMX 50 PAL setting.

Levels and gamut comes out shifted so that it is clearly visible and gamut goes sporadically out of legal range.

If I export to Quicktime ProRes from the same sequence, everything is fine.

I am running PPro 6.0.2. on Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

Maybe someone from Adobe´s side can help!?

Premiere Pro workflow coming from fcp7

$

So we are trying to make the transistion from fcp7 to adobe/premeire pro. Our previous workflow was-

Log and transfer AVCHD and canon files to ProRes, renaming the files with date, location, person, etc. These files would then go in folders with generally the same info. Those folders would be broken up by year (2012,2013, etc) because we need to be able to pull footage from now to a few years before.

We are trying to figure out how to do it with adobe. We'd like to be able to work with the raw files if possible, but we are having trouble finding out the best way to be able to add searchable keywords to the files. We've been messing with Prelude, but I'm not sure how to search a vast amount of footage with it, or how to add keywords specifically. We have been able to add keywords to files in Bridge, although for some reason it does not always work. Also with Bridge, we have to transcode the AVCHD to ProRes (or another codec that isn't raw) to be readable.

We have two, soon to be three computers hooked up to a Final Share network so we can share media. We are looking to be able to add keywords and be able to search those keywords among many folders to pull media for certain projects. Is there a way to do this with Adobe? Or do we have to invest in a pricey digial asset management software?

Thanks

CS6 / AVCHD / Spanned Clip Bug / What Cameras And Media Types Are Affected?

$

This known bug in CS6 has been well documented regarding the

potential symptoms, known issues and transcoding workarounds.

Audio and Video glitches | AVCHD footage

It would also be very helpful for CS6 users to be able to specifically

identify the problematic cameras and/or media types in order to make

informed decisions when purchasing a camera, or when receiving

media files with the intent of editing in Premiere CS6.

If there is a definitive list of specific camera manufacturers / models,

and/or media types that are affected by this bug, I have not been

able to find it.

Of course this bug has been resolved in the June 17th

release of the Creative Cloud Subscription update.

It remains to be seen if the fix will be back-ported to CS6.

Thanks.

How can I get PP to show the new audio option in Merge or Synchronise?

$

I was excited to try the new option for automatic sync of audio by waveforms when merging, synchronising or creating multicam sequences.  I have watched a few tutorials and followed them exactly.  The tutorials all show an extra option for merging, etc by audio in the relevant window (after selecting Merge, Sync, Multicam), that is absent from my version of PPro, despite applying the most recent update and rebooting my computer.

Does anyone have any idea how to make the Audio option appear in these functions?

A Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence from this tutorial is on the left, my version is on the right.

I'm rather bewildered by the lack of functions.  Thanks for any help.

Clips from Project bin to source monitor causing video output to go out of sync(CS6 and CC)

$

Any footage I double-click or drag from the Project window to the Source monitor causes my video output to go out of sync. When I put the clips in the timeline, video goes back in sync and I'm able to view video output.  My monitors are connected to a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt(9.7.5) via component and HDMI. Is this normal behavior in Premiere or is there a setting to enable this? No issues doing this in FCP7(clips from Project window to Canvas).

Can someone with an I/O from AJA, Matrox, or Blackmagic please test this out for me. Thanks...
