Unable to install codec - path or access error

$

I'm trying to encode to HEVC, so Premiere (or Media Encoder) prompts me with a pop-up that says it's needs to install the codec. I click OK, but then another prompt comes up that says "Unable to install ...".

It points to a path: "c:\Users\Public\Documents\AdobeInstalledCodecs\1.0\mc_enc_hevc.dll" and says that it cannot write to it. I've deleted the path (as suggested by the prompt) and restarted the app, but no luck.

This problem isn't specific to HEVC though - it's universal for any codec that needs to be installed after the fact. I do notice though, that when restarting the app, it creates a folder in users\public\documents called "Public Documents" and not "Documents" - so I don't know if that's the problem.

To note, I am the Admin on my system with full access to everything. I'd appreciate any assistance. Many thanks!

Can't login to YouTube (exporting issue)

Hello!

On Premiere, I'm trying to export my video to YouTube but for some reason, whenever I login to youtube on Premiere, it says I'm not logged in. I've tried logging in again but that doesn't work.

Any help?

Grey diagonal lines "danger stripes" over part of footage in timeline? Help please!

Hi there,

I am doing some video work for a client. He's sent me two rough cut edits in the past, and have all worked out fine. With the same process as before, he's sent me a third rough cut a couple of days ago, but upon opening up the project I see grey diagonal lines (danger stripes) on the timeline. The footage files are in my project, they are not offline, and there isn't any missing footage either. I can easily watch the entire video in it's full length in the source monitor, but on the timeline it doesn't show.

I've read that this is a case of frame rate mismatches, audio being out of sync, or video footage being defined to be a certain length where there isn't enough footage to satisfy that length. But I've checked all three of these to my best knowledge and have not found a solution. I've asked the client to update his Premiere Pro software to the latest version as I have, and I've asked him to send another Save of the project file. Interestingly enough, on his computer, those diagonal stripes are not there, only on mine when I open up the project.

I've tried to frame match, and replace in the timeline, but the interval isn't given in the source monitor to replace, I've tried to drag and replace but since the interval isn't saved, it starts at the beginning when replacing the clip, and I've tried deleting the project and all footage files as well, and re-downloading from Google Drive. Still, in his software no stripes, in my software stripes. But in all other projects he's sent me this was not an issue. The strange thing also is that the file in the timeline that has the danger stripes doesn't have them earlier in the timeline.

I've only experienced this one other time when I was doing nested sequence editing, and then when cutting the footage in the nested sequence short, I get the danger stripes in the main sequence. Of course, this is because the nested sequence doesn't have enough footage to satisfy the original length of the nested clip (nested sequence) on the main sequence. But in this situation, it's just a clip, so I am not sure how this could even happen.

Screenshots below of what I am seeing, would appreciate your help. Thank you.

P.S This rough cut was not done by myself, so I don't have any details on how this was put together.

Premiere 11.1.2 doesn't respond to keyboard commands while scrolling

Adobe, what the actual heck?! Have people who actually edit videos tested your new update? Because it certainly doesn't look so.

The new update doesn't respond to keyboard commands (eg. space bar to toggle play, and all others) while I am scrolling over the timeline. In fact, I don't even need to be scrolling, all I need to do is to have both my fingers on the Mac trackpad, and this disaster of an update silently ignores all key presses.

Again. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK. To not use the other word I really want to use.

How do I downgrade? This is just impossible. Also. Fix it. I pay for it, I want to use it properly.

Error Compiling Movie | Morph Cut

Hello All,

I was wondering if anybody has had this issue that I have been having for some months now. When I use the Morph Cut feature and export at "Maximum Render Quality" or "Render at Maximum Depth" my Premiere Pro system gives me a low-level error and then soon after crashes Premiere Pro.

Attached is a screenshot of this problem I keep having. I've tried clearing my cache's and cleaning things up. Even tried exporting through Media Encoder.

I'm currently running the latest version of Premiere Pro 2017.

Thank you!

Hey there, wondering if anyone else having any issues with export 360 VR videos and then trying to play on Iphone.

I shot some test clips with Gear 360 camera, after stitching the footage and bringing into Adobe Premiere for edit and exporting I can not get the video clip to play on my Iphone 5s. Am i doing something wrong? Seems straight forward. The same clips works when uploaded to youtube but copying the same footage clip to iphone its not working.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Media files deleted after 2017.1 upgrade

This may be a coincidence, but it's a mighty big one at that.  I upgraded this afternoon and opened my most recent project.  I went through the new features and then looked into the Preferences to see if there was anything new.  Arriving at the Media Cache tab I decided click on "clean unused"  Media Cache Database.  That's something I've done in previous versions.  Then I closed the open project and opened another I had finished last week.  Surprise, all media files were missing.  I checked the original file's directory.  All of the root and subfolders were intact.  However, when I looked in the clip folder all of the .MXF files were gone, leaving just the .xmp and .XML.  Every folder, in every project that was shot in AVCHD or XAVC (except for the one that was initially open) was missing the media files.  Not only that, but I found FCP 7 Capture scratch folders emptied except for the autosave vault.   There were other media files missing as well including mp4 exports, and some but not all .mov exports from every project.  Also missing are from a foder are .img files containing DVD images.  Unexplainably, some ProRes files recorded on Atomos were untouched, as well as other's that were transcodes from XAVC to ProRes.

I contacted Adobe Support via chat.  The agent told me that it was not possible for the "clean unused" function to cause all the deletions.  You can specify the media cache directory to be cleaned and in my case it was definitely not the root of the drive, nor any of the media folders.   He said that nobody has reported this issue so far.

All of my media is on a two drive RAID and that was the only drive effected. The good news is that all of my media is backed up, sometimes twice for the most important clients.  Of course restoring all that media will take hours.  Before I do that I'm running a file restoration program (that also takes hours).

Finally, the "clean unused" command may have nothing to do with it, but the fact that no media was deleted from the open project is suspicious.

Zoomed in footage after Premiere Crash

I'm editing dslr footage and the sequence settings match the footage and after Pr's 3rd crash in 3 hours I go to reopen the project and all the footage on my timeline is zoomed in. I know that means the settings don't match but it was fine earlier, they do match, and I even tried making a new sequence from the clip and it's still all zoomed in. I can't believe I have to wait till Monday to talk to a real person on the phone about this. Help please!

How to display iXML in Metadata fields in Project Panel

$

I have a large number of .WAV audio files with XML metadata written into them by my Zoom F4 Audio recorder. One of which is the "Track Name". When I open the metadata panel for a clip, I see the entry, in this case "Boom" or "Lav 1" listed in the iXML Panel:

MetaData.jpg

I cannot find a way to include this field in the display of metadata in the Project Panel of Premiere. Just about every other conceivable field can be inserted into that display. Is there a way to create a custom field and link this entry to it?

Search Bar Greyed out

We are having this same issue on 11.1.1. Cleaning the media database did not fix the issue. So we tried a new project and reimported some media and that worked until we quit out of the project. When we relaunched, it took about 15 minutes for the search bar to become ungreyed so we could use it. We are using shared storage with the databases kept on the local machine.

Any ideas?

Re-using a customized basic title from new Pr Pro CC title workflow

$

I have searched and have seen the complaining about the new tool,  I will just say.... +1 but not the purpose of this post.

I just created a basic lower thirds title from one of the basic templates provided (although several I tried wouldn't work because the fonts were not installed....why were the titles installed without the fonts???).  I was not going to try to hunt down the right font in the middle of a project.  Anyway, I created a basic lower third, changed fonts, location, etc. and just want to re-use it in another project.

So I don't want to have to go through and change the font, location, every time I want this same lower thirds. I just want to re-type the text.

I have seen the threads on how you can't export, or it is grayed out, or it only works with motion graphics.

Is this possible to save my settings for future use?  It seems like this should be pretty basic.

I know the answer is I can also use the "legacy titler", but as we all learned with Encore, once something goes legacy it is going to break, so I just am forcing myself to use this although the old title method had many more pre-build and attractive titles.

Thanks,

Variable frame rate video with Premiere Pro

Variable frame rate video comes from many places these days: phones, live streamed video recordings.

Adobe Premiere is a supposedly production level piece of software that cost a good chunk of change.

How is it 2012 and Adobe does not still have an answer to this problem?  After trying to editing/convert/mux/edit variable frame rate videos for the past 5 hours I am just exhausted.  No amount of conversion apps, etc have saved us and THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TOO.

We have spent thousands on Adobe software packages over the last decade, probably 10s of thousands, and the only answer I find consistently is to switch to Vegas.

Surely, SURELY someone at Adobe with real insight into the issue can help answer the question of whether users moving into different medium should find a place elsewhere in the software ecosystem...

Export subclips as individual clips?

$

This seems like a ridiculously obvious thing you'd want to do as an editor but I can't figure it out so I must be missing something here. This is the situation: I have 5 hours of footage. I went through all of it and deleted all the useless stuff so now I have 400+ little clips. I want to export each clip as an individual stand alone clip and send that to my producer instead of sending him all 5 hours of footage. If I drag and drop all the clips from my timeline into a bin in my project window - it creates a subclip for each clip. Great! But I tried to export those subclips - it completely ignores the in and out points of that subclip and instead exports the entire original clip. What am I missing?? How can I get Premiere to batch export all those 400+ subclips as stand alone individual clips?

Premiere Pro CC 2017 not detecting AMD Radeon 8970M

Well I recently installed Premiere Pro back after being with Davinci Resolve for a while, and seems like I can't select OpenGL GPU accelerated rendering when creating a project. Neither can I select it with Adobe Media Encoder. I can only choose software only rendering.

I tried updating drivers to latest version cleanly to no avail, I just cant select any other than Software Only rendering on all Adobe programs.

I have everything set up correctly with AMD drivers. Both Premiere Pro CC 2017, Media Encoder and GPUSniffer.exe are set to use high end graphics card, and they do, since my laptop has a LED light that lights up when the dGPU is being used, and it DOES light up when I open Premiere and while it remains open, however I cant choose any other than Software Only rendering and the GPU usage and Memory Usage stay at 0% obviously.

I have seriously tried everything before posting, but I can't get to the bottom of this.

The output of GPUSniffer.exe is the following:

Apps, Clips, and Cache read/write benefits

$

So I have been told to separate apps, clips, and cache from each other if you are fortunate enough to afford multiple SSDs. I understand the theory and have seen great benefits from doing so. So if you have 3 SSDs, but 1 is significantly faster than the other two, then which of the three categories (apps, clips you are editing, or cache) will benefit more from the faster read write speeds? If I had the money to purchase 3 top of the line SSDs then this wouldn't be a question, but since that pesky money tree hasn't taken root yet, I'm trying to figure which of those 3 categories needs to utilize the M.2 SSD the most.

Error Compiling Movie GPU/Lumetri with Premiere 2015.3 and GTX 570

Yesterday I've updated to Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 (10.3.0 202). Now when I export a video which uses the lumetri color effect it randomly crashes when using GPU acceleration:

My system:

GTX 570

A week ago I updated to the lates NVidia driver. I successfully exported some videos with lumetri color effect and using the GPU (like I did before with a driver from last summer). I did a fresh install of the same NVidia driver two days ago (because I had a problem with the Windows 10 memory compression process where it was suggested to do a clean install of the graphics driver). I did not render videos after that. And yesterday I updated Adobe Premiere.

It crashes rather randomly. Even with the projects I rendered successfully a couple of days ago. It feels like it crashes faster if I do something else (browsing the Web, watching video, using GPU-Z ...)

In this thread Lumetri Color makes "Error compiling movie. Unknown error" all the time...  somebody writes that maybe the number of CUDA cores could be a problem. But the GPU usage is usually only at 10 to 50%.

From this article (Adobe Premiere CC 2015 CC 2014 CC CS6 CS5.5 CS5 Video Cards with CUDA Mercury Playback Unlock MPE Hack David Knarr ) it seems that the number of cores may not be the problem but maybe the size of the memory? It says 1 GB is minimum and it should be 2 for HD. And my GTX 570 only has 1280 MB.

I also found some benchmarks on this site. Regarding those newer/better graphics cards do not perform that better in real world premiere projects: Adobe Premiere Video Cards Benchmark Project vs. a Real Premiere Project- Written by David Knarr (the graphs do not start at zero with the real world projects).

Do you have any tips regarding my problem? Has anybody else a problem with the new version? Can I go back to 2015.2?

How do I recover a project after I've accidentally hit Command + W (close)

$

For the third time now, after trying to hit Command + S to save my project, I also accidentally pressed the W key along with the S. So not only has my project saved, but it saves after quite literally EVERYTHING gets deleted. I managed to recover a project the first time via the autosave, but for some reason now the only thing that exists in my Adobe autosave folder is one single save for a past project. I've seen a couple other suggestions that just haven't worked for me, but maybe there's some other place that I can find the autosaves? I have small-scale backups now so I only really lose like an hour of editing at a time, but each time I've accidentally tapped Command+W it throws me into a whirling frenzy of unfathomable rage because WHY DOES THAT SHORTCUT EXIST? And why is it so close to the SAVE command, too? I need to find a solution for this because I have really fat fingers so this is going to keep happening. Any help is appreciated so I can get a previous autosave back before I throw my computer against the wall again.

Speeding up the footage from 24 fps to 30 fps and slowing from 24 fps to 18 fps

I'm editing a feature film which was filmed mainly at 24 fps.   I have an action scene filmed at 24 fps which i would like to speed up to 30 fps to imitate a normal speed. I was told that if I will have this final movie in 24 fps (as I guess most distributors want...) , then all the clips converted to 30 fps will be converted back to 24 fps when i export the final product. So is there any realistic way to have the action scene in 30 fps although most of the rest of the movie would be in 24 fps ? if so, how ?

Second question : I have a drone footage shot at 24 fps where the drone moves forward too fast. Can I slow it down to for example 18 fps in post production ? Thank you.
