Premiere Pro CC Nested Sequence Reverse Speed Makes Black Footage

$
0
0

So... I have had this problem on three separate projects over the last few months.

2 of the projects were using video files and 1 of the projects used an image sequence. So type of footage does not appear to be an issue.

The issue is the same regardless. The issue below is happening using a DSLR 1080p30 sequence. I have tested this in other sequences such as AVCHD 1080p30 and HDV 1080P30. The issue does not occur on other 1080p30 sequences. It seems to be an issue with the DSLR sequence only.

Create a sequence-> place footage or images in that sequence -> make any needed edits, effects, etc. -> Place the first sequence into a new sequence (this sequence plays back fine) ->copy that sequence or nest the sequence from the project files list a second time -> right click->select "Speed/Duration"-> Click "Reverse Speed"-> Click ok.

This process should give you one nested sequence that plays forwards and one that plays backwards.

The issue that has happened repeatedly over the last few months is that the reversed sequence turns to black footage. If I expand the track the footage still shows up as a thumbnail. Also, the sequence maintains its time. The entire sequence turns black from start to finish.

This is possibly similar to the previous fixed multicam nested sequence issue but is new as of CC 14.2.

Any suggestions outside of not using that sequence type would be appreciated. Also, hopefully Adobe sees this and can verify if there is in fact an update issue that has caused this specific issue.

I was hoping with the new version that this problem would have been addressed and fixed, but no surprise that it wasn't.

AND I EVEN HAVE A NEW iMAC TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM.  BRAND SPANKING NEW iMAC.

Let me put it to Adobe this way.  THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE EDITING TEXT, EFFECTS AND SHAPES TOOL.

Unofficial Premiere Pro Troubleshooting Guide

Disclaimer:  The following is not endorsed by Adobe in any way.  I am just a user, like you.  These are my views and recommendations.  However, they are based upon more than 15 years of experience and success using Adobe software, as well as a decade of participation in the forums.  I make these recommendations because I use them myself.  I know they work.

Step 1:  Do these first.

A.  Know what you're doing. -- Premiere Pro is meant for professionals, people who already have at least some basic education or training.  Many issues posted in the forums are the result of ignorance.  This is best solved with knowledge.  So get some education/training on the general subject of video production first, and then read the full Premiere Pro manual.  Do these things before using the software.  You will have a much easier time of it.

B.  Creativity is no longer enough. -- In this day and age, you do yourself a disservice if you are not an advanced computer user.  Any editor using software at this level should be able to build and troubleshoot their own computer.  (Or at the very least, have quick and easy access to such a person.)

Step 2:  Basic Troubleshooting.  If you still have a problem after successfully completing step 1 above (do NOT skip step 1), give these a try.  They are listed in no particular order, and not all suggestions will apply to every issue.

A.  Restart. -- Close and restart Premiere Pro.  If that doesn't help, restart the computer.  (You'd be surprised how many issues this one will solve.)

B.  Test other media. -- It sometimes happens that a particular problem is specific to one media type, so testing other supported camera media is a good troubleshooting step.  (I should note that cell phone and video game footage are NOT suitable media.  If you intend to edit with professional software, use a proper camera rather than your phone, and use a hardware recorder for screen capture.  Blackmagic and AJA both make suitable devices.  If you don't wish to change your recording method, then you should change your editing software.  Look into consumer level programs at VideoHelp.com.)

C.  Use the Media Browser. -- There are certain media formats that just work better when you copy the entire contents of the card to the hard drive, unchanged, and import them into Premiere Pro using the Media Browser.

D.  Try a new sequence. -- They can get corrupted, so start a new sequence in the same project and test that out.  If it works, you might be able to copy/paste everything into the new sequence and get back to work.

E.  Try a new project. -- Like sequences, project files can also become corrupted, so try out a new one.  If it works, you might be able to import the old project into the new one and get back to work.  When importing projects, use the Media Browser and import only one sequence at a time.  Test that out before importing the next sequence.

F.  Reset Premiere Pro. -- Holding down Shift+ALT while Premiere Pro starts up and until the Welcome screen appears will reset both the preferences and plug-ins.  This will solve many issues.

G.  Remove all effects and transitions. -- It does sometimes occur that a specific effect or transition, or a setting in one of those, causes crashes and other odd behavior.  So work through your project by removing the effects and transitions to locate the offender.

H.  Clear the Cache. -- Close Premiere Pro and using Windows Explorer, navigate to the proper location on the hard drive and manually delete all Cache folders along with the Peak Files.  When you reopen the project, let the cache files rebuild.

I.  Rename Media Folders. -- With Premiere Pro closed, rename the top level folder containing the media.  When you reopen the project, relink the media to the new folder and let the cache files rebuild.

J.  Uninstall all plug-ins. -- Even if the plug-in isn't used, just having it installed might be the problem.  So test without them.  I recommend using IOBit's Uninstaller for the task.  Perform a Powerful Scan after the normal uninstall process to make sure all the leftovers are gone.

K.  Test on a second machine. -- Premiere Pro allows two activations.  Test things out on a second computer system.  If it works on the second, you might have a hardware issue on the primary system.

L.  Render -- It can easily happen that a system just isn't powerful enough to handle sequence playback in real time.  Try rendering the timeline.  This can apply especially when using Dynamically Linked After Effects compositions.

M.  Turn off CUDA -- Unfortunately, GPU acceleration isn't perfect.  Sometimes this is the only way to get things working again.

N.  Remove QuickTime -- Again I recommend using IOBit Uninstaller for the task.  Perform a Powerful Scan to make sure all leftovers are gone.

Step 3:  Advanced Troubleshooting.  If steps 1 and 2 haven't solved the issue (do NOT skip step 1), give these more advanced options a try.

A.  Update drivers. -- The GPU diver, I/O device drivers, audio drivers, network drivers, etc.  Get them directly from the hardware manufacturer.

B.  Roll back a driver. -- Conversely to the above, there are times when a new driver will introduce a bug that wasn't there before, so installing an older driver can sometimes solve the problem.

C.  Remove third-party hardware. -- In the spirit of eliminating variables during the troubleshooting process, physically remove any third-party hardware like I/O devices from the system, and fully uninstall their drivers.  Keep it out until everything works again.  (Or if this turns out to be the issue, replace the hardware.)

D.  Remove security software. -- Windows 10 includes sufficient anti-virus and firewall protection, if you know what you're doing.  (See step 1B above.)  Third-party security tools can and sometimes do interfere with the proper operation of Adobe software.  Just don't use them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A62kyAoysyI

E.  Reinstall Premiere Pro. --  It does sometimes happen that something goes weird with an install.  When you perform this step, use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to ensure a complete removal of the software, and then reinstall.

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

F.  Try a new user account. -- Like sequences and projects, even user accounts can sometimes go weird.  Try creating a new Admin user account and running PP there.  If this works, you will have to move everything over to the new account.

G.  Don't move documents. -- Be sure to leave My Documents in its default location on the C: drive.  Moving that has caused issues for many people.  If you're in a networked environment and can't do that, move Premiere Pro to a non-networked computer and do this.

H.  Use local drives only. -- Outside of using Adobe Anywhere or Team Projects (both of which are paid services), keep everything on internal drives only.  Use networked and removable drives only for backup and archiving.

I.  Reinstall Windows -- This is not a bad thing to do every once in a while.  If nothing else has worked, this might be worth trying.

Step 4:  Back to Basics.  There are many people successfully using Premiere Pro under less than ideal conditions, but if nothing previously listed has solved your issue, it might be time to take a look at which points below you're violating and correct them.

I recommend running Premiere Pro only on a:

A. Properly configured -- Use only Intel/nVidia hardware in an edit system.  Have multiple internal hard drives to spread out the load, ideally separating project files, cache and scratch files, media and exports onto their own dedicated drives.  Use at least a 24" 1920 x 1080 monitor.

B. Self-built -- HP, Dell and other such companies normally install a bunch of crap you don't need.  It's cheaper and better to build your own system.  (Do NOT skip step 1 above.)

C. Windows machine -- They just run better.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDmOHU6lmRw

D. Dedicated to editing. -- Only install what you need to do the job.  Don't install games, office, email or other unnecessary software on an edit system.  Perform those tasks on a second machine.

I recommend the above because I believe it will work for the overwhelming majority of people.  I do believe that as you violate any of these four points, you increase the likelihood of having a problem.  Since you're here, you're having a problem.  And if you're at step 4, it's a difficult problem that just might require this drastic a measure to correct.

Step 5:  Now what?  If you have successfully completed steps 1 through 4 and you're still having an issue, read the following guide on the information we need in the forums in order to help.

Premiere Pro 2018 full of bugs. Can you please fix these three?

$

I can't believe how buggy this 'upgrade' is!

1) Drag clip from Source window to sequence timeline and the clip video and audio tracks are unlinked, even though they show as linked. When you try to unlink and relink they remain unlinked.

2) Morph cut transitions create black frames. You can force a fix by changing the morph duration, but it doesn't always work.

3) It is no longer possible to expand/contract a sequence timeline track by moving the finger over the smart-mouse, a feature I used all the time.

How about testing before releasing?

Please fix asap.

While working on a project, I was well on my way to assembling my piece when I clicked on the Effects window up top of the screen, and the entire screen went black. I did this multiple times with the same result. Every time I click on the Effects window, and only the Effects window, the program goes black. All other windows work perfectly fine, any idea?? Currently on a deadline and I need to get it done asap. Thank you very much for any help!!!

Premiere Pro CC (2017) crashes at export

Hello

I've just started a Premiere Pro trial a few days ago and edited a video which I'm unable to export.

The export fails over and over again for the most part at the same point (34%..) The error code is 1609629690.

I'm using a Surface Pro 3 Core i5 running Windows 10. I tried to export at least 30 times with no success while changing parameters etc. As part of the mitigation I tried the following steps: Restarted my Surface Pro, rendered smaller segments in order to identify segments that may be causing this issue, removed suspicious still photos, tried different output types and tried to export based on previews.

I've worked with other editing software before and never had these problems.

Would appreciate any advice.

Please help, experiencing Troubles in editing.

I then put in a clip of gameplay and it is very very zoomed in, and very horrible frames. What is the issue, i need this solved.

2018 and floating panels and windows on pop-up use: troublesome behavior

Hello! After installed the new premiere pro 2018 version, i've got a huge problem with floating windows. I work with three monitor (1 and 2 for my extended UI, anche 3 for preview full screen playback). Premiere pro main ui it's inside the first monitor with some tabs like project, media browser ecc ecc. On the second monitor i've got a floating window at full screen with inside the timeline, the preview monitor, the program the VUmeter etc (ui like Avid).

with the old version of premiere (2017), if i double click on a project folder, it pop up in the center on the first monitor, the good floating window, non too big, not too small. With this new version, if i double click the same folder, the floating window it appears in front the second monitor, in front at full screen the other ui with program, preview, timeline etc. Also, if i open a new project with this version (more projects inside the same ui), the new project floating window pop up BEHIND the ui to the second monitor. Ok, in general option i can set the double click open bin to the same position or tab, but i'm used to open a bin with a new pop up floating window. What's wrong? How can i fix this annoying problem? Many thanks!

CC 2018 Multiple Issues With Text (missing stroke gradient settings, unable to access text from bin)

$

I just upgraded to CC 2018, and I'm having trouble finding features with the text editor that I've used for years. I've always used a white text/ blue gradient-stroke for stylized captions. All I can find is the text panel under Effect Controls to alter text, but it doesn't contain any of my other custom text styles, doesn't include the buttons to center text either horizontally/vertically, and most importantly for me, doesn't have the settings for creating a gradient for the text's stroke. In general I just want to be able to use the standard text editor I've come to use for years; is it renamed or rebranded as something else within Premiere Pro, and is there a way to pull it up to properly edit my text?

I've noticed too that my text isn't saved in the project bin any more. I used the bin all the time to reintroduce the same text across different points in my videos; is there any way to go back to this feature? Hunting down other text layers used in my timeline to copy/paste it or remaking the text each time I want to use it seems way more effort than just having it there in the bin ready to drag onto the timeline.

^Remedy for Jerky playback after rendering?

$

I've been filming scale jet-aeromodels which means mostly fast action. My camera was set to HD (1920x1280) with 25 frames/sec progressive. My computor works with Win 10 pro, 64bit on intel i7-2630QM, CPU @ 2,00 GHz. 24 GB RAM. SSD harddisk for my programs.

Playing back sequences from the timeline, that is on the program monitor, the action is nice and even, but after rendering fast motion is jerky and wing edges on the models are sometimes pixeled. I've tried a couple of different rendering modes but the outcome is the same. I guess it would have been better to film with 50 frames/s interlaced  but now I'm stuck with what I've got and I'd hate to toss it all away. Anyone got a solution to my problem?

DNG files not displayed correctly PP 2017

$

Working with footage from a Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6. We're recording DNG lossless files without any LUTs being burned in. We're able to get the footage imported into PP CC 2017.1.2 (Mac) and have it play back. The issue is that it appears to be displayed to something that looks like Rec709. When the same footage is imported into Resolve, it displays properly as RAW footage without the highlights being blown out etc.

I've looked for info online that might shed light onto this, but nothing that addresses this particular issue. The desired outcome is being able to import into PP as a DNG RAW file and have it displayed that way on the timeline and be able to adjust the look using Lumetri.

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Can't open a MOGRT file in Essential Graphics

I bought this template off Adobe Stock:

Lower Third photos, royalty-free images, graphics, vectors & videos | Adobe Stock

I can't open it in Premiere, though Adobe Support tells me I should be able to.

I looked on the Adobe support forums and this seems to be the usual, 'take your Mac apart, climb Kilimanjaroo and go to night school for 3 years' and that might fix it' type of advice.

So, my question is.

Does anybody know of any way I can actually use the product I paid for?

Unable to open Premiere or After Effects projects on other machines.

I'm on 2017 iMac (OSX 10.12.6) at work and have been working directly from a Dropbox folder so I'm able to open everything from home and continue where I left off. This has never been an issue before recently updating to CC 2018. Now it seems that any projects I create at work no longer open from any other machines that have access to my Dropbox folder. If I try to open the project, the furthest I'll get is the Locate Missing Media dialog, but as soon as I link everything I get an "A serious error has occurred..." dialog box. All I can do is click ok and the program closes. This is happening on multiple projects and I've even tried opening everything from another MacBook and Windows 10 desktop. Like I said, I never had any issues with this workflow using CC 2017. I have been using a work subscription plus my own personal subscription at home, and have tried switching everything to the work subscription but get the same issue.

If anyone else has run into this issue, would love to hear your thoughts or solutions.

Ligatures in new type tool

Is there a way to access ligatures with the new type tool? I'm using an open type font in Premiere and it's automatically using Standard Ligatures for anything I type, which I don't want it to do. However, I don't see any way to turn off the ligatures for specific character groups or a way to just turn them off completely.

Premiere Pro CC 2018 Help

Hi

I had everything running perfectly before I updated premiere pro cc from 2017 to 2018 but I started running into problems after I updated to 2018. I already opened up a premiere project and had it converted over but it's doing that every time I open the project from closing out of the window. Not only does it convert it every time but I have link my after effects comps to it every time it converts it to a new project. I have after effects up to date as well. I never move anything that is linked to the premiere project because I keep all the project files on a folder on my external hard drive. If someone could help me out that would be great. I shouldn't have to link everything back together every time I open the same project.

Operating System: OS X High Sierra

Essential Graphics unable to make a horizontal line? (Premiere)

$

0

Hi All,

On the following page it is advertised that you can create a straight line in Premiere's Essential Graphics Panel by using the pen tool and holding shift to snap the line perfectly horizontal (same as in Adobe Illustrator, and Line tool in Legacy titler)

However, I don't believe this is working as intended, i.e. pressing shift when using the pen tool is not doing anything. Can anyone else confirm this is a problem for them?

Best,
Alex

What causes 'Recovered Clips' bins to invade my project and how can I avoid or remove them?

$
0
0

I've been sharing sequences on a project.  Unfortunately, Premiere starts creating 'Recovered Clips' bins... thus duplicated media for our project and defeating any effort to keep our media organized.  When sharing sequences, it's impossible for all media to be under the exact same path (with drive letter) across numerous team members, so media must sometimes be located (even if the data tree is the same).  It seems that Premiere creates duplicates for this located media, even though they already exist in the project.  Can I merge these duplicates back into the versions that already exist?

I don't want to to have multiple copies of the same media in our project.
