New Update.(!) New Problems.(?)

$

Now that all of my hardware, software, CPU, both NVIDIA 1050ti GPU's, nuts, bolts, electric flow, chi, etc... are all working together smoothly and I'm cranking out content with ease(AND with Lumetri filters and some Red Giant effects)....Adobe goes and updates. Dread has set in. Hopefully, all is well but history shows every time something changes, I can't render/export because "driver is out of sync" or "you have to go back to the previous version of PP" or something else highly frustrating and time consuming.

As of now, I will not update because of the above and because I have projects to finish on a deadline. I did read all of the update information and would love to use the new features! However, great anxiety is upon me as I anticipate getting to my work space later today.

I really really hope that Adobe has fixed the seemingly little "bugs of compatibility" on perfectly capable machines. Or has more simple explanations on fixing issues when they occur.

As of 11:00 AM 4-3-2018, my PC and the Adobe Premiere Pro CC Suite has allowed me to produce a ton of videos, ranging from 15 seconds to 5 and a half minutes in length, in the past week alone. (Only recent issues have been too much graphics/effects/lumetri on a clip with legacy title in one small section. Easy fix. Was just too much for my comp to process/export) Please, let this consistency I've been having continue and please give me no reason to return to this forum.

If anyone has had any issues since updating, mention briefly with a comment! **until 4-5-2018.(I will try and remember to delete this after the 5th if no problems)***

Thanks for your time!

Struggling with getting started ingesting, creating proxies, workflow

$

0

Here's my problem... I'm an experienced television editor, but never an AE... so after about two or three months of extensive studying and reading everything I can, I figure I'm about two steps above a complete moron when it comes to the technical side of getting what I've shot (also learning here) into the system efficiently and starting editing. My wife (also a television professional) and I are developing some show ideas/pitches, and working on a documentary on a topic we are both passionate about, so this should give you an idea of our goals when it comes to what we need/want to do. I'll also ultimately be doing some color correcting, some gfx, but nothing too heavy for a while...

I think I should use a proxy workflow and was considering ProRES 422 proxy. I know I have a powerful computer, but since I'm working with footage from different drones and cameras, some 4k, lots of full HD, some slo mo, shooting in Long GOP on the GH5 (harder to edit with), and I also understand that the H.264 codec is harder to edit with due to so much compression, I figured this would let my computer keep up with my editing skills instead of working too hard. And, as I'm so accustomed to an offline workflow at work, seeing the lower res footage is actually less jarring than seeing all this great footage right now (haha).

So my first question is; does it seem like I'm on the right track? Or should I be considering using a different proxy? Do people ever edit with some proxies and some native files? Basically, should I just transcode everything to one of the smaller ProRES codecs and get to work?

Secondly; I have yet to copy any footage from any of my SD cards to my G-Drive. I'm only ingesting lots of B Roll for future projects right now and some of them are big files with only a few viable shots in them. Should I just accept this and use the "Copy and Transcode" option in Ingest settings in Premiere, copying the entire source files from each SD card to the G-Drive, into designated source media folders, while assigning the transcoded files to go where?? also to the G-Drive in separate folders? Currently, I'm putting my project file on the internal 1TB SSD.

It seems like I'm going to learn a valuable lesson about planning my shots more and not just letting it run, but I'd love to be able to mitigate the damage to my hard drive space on this ingest, and in the future. Is there a way to do that in either Premiere, Media Encoder or Prelude, with the source footage, or just with the transcoded footage. It's not the end of the world, but my creative head is swimming with technical information and I just want to start the right way.

Thanks in advance!!! (to anyone who takes the time to read this)

Anthony

Bunch of Colored Boxes When Using Motion Graphics Template

Hey all, need some help regarding a motion graphics template. Installed a new one from Adobe Stock. At first it worked great. Then somewhere along the line as I was previewing, I started getting all these colored boxes instead of the graphics template. See screenshot. Tried the old system restart, but to no avail. Tried unistalling, re-downloading and reinstalling the template, no dice.

Timeline information disappears when I save in Premiere Pro

I just downloaded the newest version of Premiere Pro CC 2018, and every time I save my project the screen freezes for a minute and then goes blank. If I try to reopen the project it will open but my timeline is completely empty, and all of my saved data in the project is missing.

The auto save seems to be working ok, but the standard save is not.

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I have been unable to open Premiere Pro CC 2018 since last Thursday. As the opening screen appears, I receive an error message with a Close Program button. Also, please note that After Effects is also not working (crash report), but Illustrator is working.

After reading through other questions on the forum, I have listed as much information as I can below. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Premiere Pro CC 2018 Doesn't seem to be able to search the Project Panel

When typing a file name in the search field and hitting enter, I get a resulting Project Panel with no media, as in no results.  I intentionally searched a file I know is there.  Anyone else getting this?  I'm getting it no matter what I search for.  In this example I search for DFLM0637 which is in the Choir Tour bin as seen in the pics.  Pic 1 is showing that the file IS indeed there - DFLM0637.MOV  Pic 2 is me having typed that file in the search field, before hitting enter.  Pic 3 is my result.

Thanks for any advice.

Proxies Made in Premiere Pro CC 2018 Aren't Connecting Properly

$

I work with a proxy workflow regularly and generally have no issue. Yesterday, I upgraded to CC 2018. I ingested media into my project, organized it, spot logged it and then created proxies overnight by right clicking the media > proxy > create proxies > Format: Quicktime > Preset: 1280x720 Apple Pro Res 422 (Proxy). I set the destination to a proxy folder on the media drive.

This morning I noticed that the proxies did not attach themselves so I manually attached them by right clicking the clip > proxy > attach proxies and navigated to the folder I had created. Premiere indicated that all the proxies attached via the metadata display. However, playback on the footage was just as laggy as when the footage was in it's native format (footage was shot with a Sony FS7 and is .MXF). I troubleshooted for a few hours and tried I restarting Premiere, restarting my computer, transferring the media and proxies to a different drive, reconnecting the media and the proxies manually. Each time Premiere says the proxies are attached, but, no matter what I do the proxies do not actually attach. When I "reveal the clip in finder" it takes me to the original media.

I inherited this project from another editor who used the same workflow. When I reveal in finder the media that was already in the project, which Premiere says has attached proxies, the media is revealed in the proper proxy folder and plays back in Premiere without issue.

Is anyone else having trouble with proxies being read incorrectly by Premiere? Is the solution to remake the proxies (I hope not).

I am running a mid 2015 15" Macbook Pro - OS 10.12.6 and CC 2018

All suggestions and insights are welcome.

Captions Won't Show Up

$

I have tried every single possible format for my captions, and they still won't show up in Quicktime, nor does the option to show captions in quicktime under the view tab.

I have embedded them, I have tried every type of sidecar file, I have burned them in, and I have tired both CEA-608 and CEA-708 with each of those format options.

I have posted this question in the quicktime forums as well, but if the burned in captions are not showing up, there is a problem with Adobe Premiere because they should be burned into the video, like a title or something similar. Wtf is going on?

Hello Adobe team!

I'm just wondering if there's an update on when you will be supporting Canon's .CRM Raw light codec in Premiere for the Canon c200?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

"Team Project - Local Changes" Error

I have an editor who was working with me on a Team Project and then when they went to push their changes they received this message.

Screen Shot 2018-04-03 at 11.57.53 AM.png

When he clicks "Save Local Changes" it makes him save it as a new copy, if he chooses "Discard Local Changes" it closes without saving.

Since receiving this message he's:

  • Closed and re-opened the team project.
  • We made sure my both of our machines were running on the same version of Premiere CC
  • Computer Restart
  • Uninvited, and re-invited him to the Team Project. However he's unable to make work in the same Team Project.

There are a total of four editors on this project and only one editor seems to have this issue.

System Breakdown while using Warp Stabilizer

Hey guys,

I use Premiere Pro 2018 (v.12.0) with Windows 10

System:

Intel Core i7 - 7820X CPU 3.6 Ghz

64 GB Ram

2x GeForce GTX1070

Whenever I try to apply the warp stabilizer to a clip (from an external hard drive - USB 3.0) the computer shuts down the moment when the stabilizing process starts. The computer restarts automatically. When I apply the effect on the same clip in After Effects it works. Is this problem familiar? It started a few days ago.

Best regards,
Daniel

Dealing with long video files, a discussion.

Hey everybody, first forum post after being a long time lurker, hope this is acceptable as a discussion.

I do most of my editing in a relatively niche enviroment. I work with long (4-9 hr.) videos, and was hoping to have some discussion with those of you who also work with massive stupid clips.

My method is as follows:

Record in OBS -> Key on my keyboard is my "highlight key", when i press it, it exports the timestamp to a notepad file, which I reference later -> import footage (takes forever) -> delete 99% of my footage -> repeat 15-50 times per video.

My questions are as follows:

What do you guys do for ingesting? I would love to ingest my files and once they are ingested, they are moved from one hard drive to the other, and then I can delete the unused clips i have sitting on my one 4TB raw footage drive.

How do you guys deal with long conforming, and memory issues with large project files?

For those of you who use After effects dynamic link, what are your tips for making your workflow simpler?

If interested (and allowed) ill post up one of my videos as a reference. Thanks guys!

Future versions of Premiere Pro will no longer support Quicktime 7 era formats and codecs

$

Hello everyone,

I’m the product manager for Premiere Pro. As there will be a change to our file format support starting with the next release of Premiere Pro, I wanted to be sure you’re aware of what that’s going to look like. Below is the official statement and a link to further information. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Adobe continuously aims to keep up with the most modern workflows and support formats and codecs broadly used across the professional film and video industry. As a result, future versions of Premiere Pro will no longer support legacy QuickTime 7 era formats and codecs. Professional codecs typically found in QuickTime movie files, such as ProRes, DNxHD, and Animation, are not impacted by this change.  These codecs are supported natively in Premiere Pro.

To alert Premiere Pro users regarding this pending change, the most recent versions (12.0, 12.01) of Premiere Pro show a warning notification when you attempt to use a legacy QuickTime format or codec that will no longer be supported, starting with the next release.

If you are affected by this change, please stay tuned for more information regarding next steps.

Premiere 2018 and 2017 keep crashing

Hello,

I was trying to use Premiere 2018 and it crashed every single time I tried to import a clip from the source panel to the timeline (with or without sound, with or without in an out marks) or if I tried to move a clip in the timeline.

After looking in the forums and not finding a clear answer, I gave up and reinstalled version 2017. It worked for about one hour but then it started to crash for the same reasons listed above, which was not happening before.

Please help!!

I rendered proxies in quicktime cineform , now when i press the view proxies button the image looks  like the picture below; Two images squeezed on top of each other.

Screenshot 2018-03-31 14.47.38.png

Screenshot 2018-03-31 14.47.33.png

The proxies look normal when viewed in VLC, but whenn i import them in premiere the display in this strange way. See this image in the attach proxies window. With the same proxy in VLC next to it:

Screenshot 2018-03-31 17.08.13.png

I am on Win 10 latest -premiere pro latest - the footage is Sony FS5 4k  AVC_4096_2160_H422IP@L51 25.00p 4096x2160

I installed gopro studio earlierer, this might have messed with cineform in some way.

Things that dont help:

-Changing rendering to software only

-Changing the sequence settings - the bug occurs in the preview window as well

-There are no related settings in Gopro studio

-Making a new project

-Starting up PP with alt or shift-alt to reset settings.

-Uninstalling GOPRO software

-Uninstalling OPENAL

-Uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere pro and other CC programs

-My windows restore points dont seem to work

Thing that do help but wont work for me:

Creating proxies in MP4 , not cineform quicktime

The MP4 proxy type does not support multi channel audio

Please help me out here!
