Upgrade from Premiere 6.5

My husband has been working with Premiere 6.5 on Mac OS x 10.3.9 for many years, but things keep going wrong on his Mac and he currently can't burn any dvds, so I've been trying to persuade him to upgrade.   Will he be able to use the clips he has made on Premiere 6.5 in Premiere Pro or Premiere Elements?

I can't even find out what file types the clips are and my Windows laptop doesn't recognise them....

Why Premiere won't capture HDV

Everything is set up fine. Premiere just doesn't work. Will not capture HDV.

Kinda pissed since Adobe talked me into switching from Final Cut to Permiere and it doesn't work.

Doesn't read in/out points, doesn't stop just keeps recording past in/out points, then at the end of the tape Premiere crashes.

Great piece of work Adobe. Bet you've got a bridge to selll me too.

How do I remove an audio effect?

Hey fellas - I'm trying to clean up an install of my Izotope Nectar Elements on my upgrade install from CS6 to CC.  I removed Izotope Nectar Elements from Add/Remove but still see 2 instances of it under the Audio Effects.  How can I remove it?

Using Titles created with the Title Tool Crash PPRO CC

$

I'm running into an issue where when using TITLES created in PPro CC and then lay them over footage, the video playback just goes to black and won't playback my timeline. It literally forces me to quit, restart and then render upon re-entry to even preview my titles. Thoughts? Ideas?

Seems all the issues I run into are with video playback/output. I previously posted that my screen goes black or white when CC will cease to playback any more video... this usually happens when I apply a filter and begin to play around with it, tweaking the settings. If I drop and go it seems to just work... but anytime I need to playback, repeatidly, my machine crashes videoplayback. Luckily I can save and quite still, as I recognize the error, but this is a pretty ridiculous request 25 times a day... At the moment Premiere (non PRO) from 10 years ago was more stable in this department... I'm sure its just something with my machine, but until someone can answer otherwise, it leads me to believe this is just an unstable build... and I don't want to think of it like that.

For the record --

Running OSX 10.8.4, Macbook Retina, Nvidia GeForce GT 650M, CUDA Driver 5.0.61, 16GB Ram... mostly DSLR footage and some ProRes files. Using a USB 3 drive and not noticing a difference when using the desktop as a testing ground...

Is there anything I'm missing, places to look?

Premiere Pro 6 will not play

I was working on a complicated AE comp. and had just brought it into Premiere using the dymanic link when the program stopped playing. I saved it but then I tried closing and it crashed. It will now open but not play. The AE project will not open, it just stays at 0% when I try to open it.

Any ideas on what I should try?

thanks

Why are things positioned differently when I export?

When I lay out my movie in Premiere, I put things in the place I need them (video and images). When I export my file as an AVI, I notice that things are in different places. What is going on, and how do I fix it? Is there a such thing as relative and absolute positioning in Premiere?

Bridge/Prelude/Premiere/Encore, Arrrgh! Workflow/Asset Managment overload! Help.

I've been viewing a tutorial series in addition to some random one's on the web, mostly covering functionality, but what isn't clear to me (yet) has to do with asset management and workflow. I know enough to understand that these two areas are the most important aspects of the whole process; without organized asset management and an orderly, systematized, hierarchical approach to accomplishing tasks the creative side of things will suffer dramatically at the worst time.

Regarding asset management, I have three separate drives for for audio, video, and stills. All the files reside in their original locations except for video files that I originally had stored on my stills drive. These video files were copied to my video drive into the Adobe Folder> Premiere Projects Folder> Project Name Folder. In addition, I have a folder on the video drive called "Raw Footage" that I'm using for random footage unrelated to any project; sort of a personal stock footage resource.

As a practice project for the tutorial series I'm using assets from a 45 day Rail Pass tour I took a few years ago. Assets include SDDV. m2ts, and mov, files with different sample rates, in addition to jpg and psd files.

Where would the following programs come into play and at what point in the workflow does the transition from one to the other begin and/or overlap?

Bridge

Prelude

Premiere

Encore

Where does Bridge come into play and when?

There are folders with m2ts files on my stills drive that I've copied and pasted to my video drive. Should I have used Prelude to ingest and "Transfer Clips To Destination" ("destination" being my video drive)? Should I have transcoded to a less resource hungry format and, if so, does Prelude create an EDL that can be used to conform the final edit replacing the low rex clips files the the original higher rez files?

I know I have to capture SDDV as DV (not HDV) with Premiere but what else do I need to know about such capture? As far as actual editing goes the tutorials are covering a lot of that.

Eventually I'll use Encore to author a proper DVD that is compatible with every DVD or Blu-ray player. Right?

I guess the question could be, "What is yout multi asset workflow?"

I feel like such a noob.

Thanks.

Use of Black Video to Fill Timeline Gaps???

$

Hello,

I have read articles in the past on using black video to fill any gaps between clips in the timeline. Is this a nessecary proceedure? I have rendered plenty of videos without doing this, and had no problems. Premeire will simply render black frames wherever there is not a clip. Does anyone have any pointers on this?

Thanks,

Clayton Nolen

What is Premiere pro CC?

I just got CS6 Cloud in April,

Sorry for this dumb question, I have not found a satisfactory answer anywhere so I'm asking...

What is Premiere CC?

is it CS6 cloud?

is it a new version?

What about CS6? Is it going to stay?

When was CC released?

Was it announced? and when?

Should I switch to CC and abandon CS6?

If you compared what do you think ?

Thanks!

Serge

Premiere CC kicks GPU acceleration for 6770M

$

Installing Premiere CC has disabled GPU acceleration on my 2011 iMac running the "Supported" AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB Graphics card. GPU acceleration was working fine on CS6 without the need for any hack.

I am running a fully updated OS Mountain Lion.

GPU acceleration was also kicked on a work computer I was using on a different license. A PC with an Nvidia card. This required the card driver to be reinstalled. But because my iMac has the driver built into the OS I can't do this for my iMac.

Since this happened on two completely different computers I've used with different OS and graphics cards I'm surprised this isn't a big issue for lots of people.

Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Red 4k playsback smooth while 3k stutters until go down to 1/2 debayer?????

I work in the red 1080p 25 preset with fulldebayer but scale to fit. This works good with the 4k files. But once I import slowmo shot at 48fps in 3k in (still 25fps timebase) premiere starts to stutter on playback. If I go down to 1/2 debayer it playsback fine but looks nasty of course on the ref  monitor.

It is easier to play back 25fps 3k than 4k, why does not premiere get this?? I looked and premiere does think the 3k should play back at 25fps so far so good.

Why can't Adobe offer Premiere Pro (and its other software) as a perpetual licence and via the cloud

$

It seems clear to me some like the cloud and others don't. Why? Customers have different requirements. Each approach offers attractions to different people. A company ignores its customers requirements at its peril. You just have to remember VHS vs BetaMax - BetaMax was far superior but it is no more. Maybe not a great comparison but the point is even great products fail. By offering both Adobe would secure a wider and happier customer base.

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, Toshiba Qosmio and GoPro issues...

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and GOPRO hero 3 mp4 videos. I am getting choppy play back and choppy scrubbing. My current setup is a Toshiba Qosmio x875-Q7390 Laptop. The laptop has an i7 processor, 16 gigs of ram, Nivida GTX670M video card with CUDA and 3 gigs of deticated ram, 2- 1TB HD's at 5,400 rpm and 4 3.0 USB ports. For  setting up my scatch discs I use the C drive for software, the D drive for video and an external USB 3.0 device for playback. I did notice that Adobe doent have the drivers for my video card (so using the full potential of my card is not gonna happen), and my hard drives may be on the slow side, but play back is way slow and choppy just like on my older Toshiba i5 sattelite. If I replace my drives with 7200 rpm's will this help? Oh I forgot to mention that my C drive is a hybrid so a few gigs are solidstate.

How to 'talk over' with PPro CC?

$

In Premiere Pro CC I´m not allowed to capture audio and simultaniously mute this audio track I want to capture to. For news videos I have to capture my 'talk over' voice after editing. Due to system latency I would hear my own voice with a annoiying time lag. So in CS6 I muted this specific track hearing the rest.

Did Adobe changed this? How can I mute the track I´m capturing to?

Any workarounds? Do I have to make a feature request that won´t be heard? (Or is it just my low-price PC?)

Pr CC Lumetri Looks and AMD GPU acceleration

$

Is anyone else having issues with Premiere Pro CC Lumetri Looks with AMD graphics cards?

I am editing a project and if I apply lumetri looks to any footage while Pr CC project settingsis set to playback using the mercury playback engine gpu accelerated (openCL) I have lots of probelms. For example, the video will look fine in the preview screen for a  short while when I preview but later my preview will turn to green or pink, or solid white or solid black. If I export my project with gpu acceleration the project eports fast but will stop in the middle because of "unknown errors".

If I edit the same project and do all the same things except chan ge to CPU playback everything works fine but much slowe.

I have a AMD FirePro V7900 video card which is on Pr CC's list of recommended cards for gpu acceleration.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
