1st Time with DVCPROHD

I have footage that I'm pretty sure is DvcProHD/Panasonic P2 footage. The specs in Prem CS5 tell me:

Image Size: 1280 x 1080

Pixel Depth: 24

Frame Rate: 29.97

Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.5

Video data block #1:

Frame Size = 1280 x 1080

Compressor = Apple ProRes 422

Quality = Most (5.00)

Can I edit this in Premiere? I assume I can, but when I go to export a timeline to a 1080 h.264, AME goes bonkers telling me it's going to take an hour for five mintues of footage. Is there something else I should export to?

If I use a square pixel export method, can I get 1080, or should I go 720?

Thanks!

LUT/Lumetri in Premiere issues

$

Hello,

I've been playing with the Lumetri effect in premiere, and I hope to see it do even more in expanded updates! I've ran into a couple things, 1. one big issue, 2. an annoyance (i hope just a config issue), and 3. a time saver i'm not sure how to use (if it's possible at all):

1. The main problem is when I use a vignette in Speedgrade, it has issues when I load the .look file in Premiere through Lumetri (and when subsequently rendered from Premiere. Note the horizontal bands about halfway down:

vignetteissue.jpg

This is the only section affected (the left side of a 1920x1080 frame).

A couple things I've learned:

- it is related to the size of the vignette, because this happens on any vignette mask I create where the feathered part of the mask is near the edges of the screen. If I make the mask considerably larger, or if the entire mask (including feathered part) are within the frame, the issue does not happen.

- slightly resizing the vignette slightly alters the lines, but they're still there.

- turning off the vignette solves the issue,so I believe it's connected to the vignette.

- the issue does not show up in Speedgrade.

I'm using an NVIDIA based GTX 580 video card.

I could always create a vignette somewhere else (in Premiere, or in AE), but that would be a work around that sort of defeats the point of being able to load the Speedgrade look.

2. My second issue (and a smaller one), is that often when my video is paused in Premiere and a lumetri .look is applied, the paused image looks completely different than the source footage or the footage with the look applied. When I hit play, the lumetri look kicks in, but goes back to the wierd look.

Sometimes, it will show the lumetri .look applied all the time, until I hit play, then it will start showing the weird look when paused again. It's weird. Not a deal killer, but annoying.

I don't know what I can do to make the lumetri effect apply the .look more consistently while paused.

3. Lastly, there are many .look presets in the Effects panel. Sweet! They appear to be the ones from Speedgrade. Does anyone know how I can make folders with my own custom .looks in the effects bin? I see I can make new effects bins and import presets, but looks aren't preset files. That would just be a nice convenience.

Thanks in advance for your assist!

Premiere CC crash while playing and zooming timeline

Regularly crashing Premiere CC now while playing back the timeline, I zoom in and out on the timeline using my +/- hot keys and Premiere CC will crash.  I hate to say it but Premiere is starting to become unstable like my prior copy of Sony Vegas Pro.  It's frustrating.

Premiere Pro CC reports "The importer reported a generic error" on import of any files

Ever since the 30 day trial period of CC ran out I have had huge problems. Premiere Pro will not import any files other than m4v files (from iTunes of all things), reporting a generic error.

I run on Mac.

I have already reinstalled everything. Twice.

This problem has now affected Premiere Pro 6 on my Macbook, which ran just fine until I downloaded CC (against my wishes, by the way - I wanted 6 back on my Pro but no option avaialable.

Does anyone have any ideas. Way beyond frustrating, especially as 'live help' are completely hopeless.

Thanks.

I'm having vertical banding issues in Premiere Pro 6 with my video playback.  I ingested video from my mini-DV Sony camera.  I think it's a codec issue, but if there's an easier answer I'll take it.

Importing AVCHD into PPro CS5

Hello there.

I have been importing my AVCHD footage into PPro CS5 and each time I end up with repeated files that are different by one digit but are the same clip and the same file size.

I have been dragging and dropping 2 folders from the camera's hard drive (AVCHD and AVF_Info) directly into a folder in my external hard drive, then importing those two folders into PPro. The only other folder on the camera's harddrive is the one that stores still images. The preset in PPro that I choose is 1080p - AVC-I 100 1080p30.

Is someone able to tell me why clips are being replicated? Can I delete the extra ones?

Thanks!

will this AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 work for PP CC on a macpro?

im on an 8 core macpro - 4,1 (2.93ghz Nehalem), with an older ATI 4870 (512mb's)

PP CC works but there is no hardware acceleration so i dont get very far once i drop a few plugins on with the CPU's already maxing out. now with PP CC playing friendly with OpenCL will the "AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 " show up for GPU acceleration? i see thats its approved for "Windows" but not in the Mac list.

i was almost ready to get the Mac approved GTX 680 but now im wondering it the above 7870 would work decently.

hope someone can answer this. id hate to order the card only to find out it wouldnt work.

thanks!

Still Image Slideshow Looks Awful... Export Setting?

$

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to export a video that's basically 1 minute of high res images (taken on a Nikon D800 & D90) that fade from one to the next every 3 seconds, and a piece of music plays behind it.

I don't care what the final file size ends up being. I just need to export this video and have it look perfect. On my computer monitor however, so far in about a dozen combinations of file format / preset, they look completely pixelated and awful. The best I've gotten so far was an Mp4 (forget the exact preset I used, but I'm sure I could figure it out), but even that doesn't even look close to perfect on my computer monitor, and I'm sure once it's displayd big on a big widescreen TV it will look even worse. If I just display the images they look great (they're really high res after all), so it's obviously something with the various export settings...

Can anyone provide any help / insight into what good settings would be for a project like this? Again, file size doesn't matter at all. Not trying to save space. I just want this slideshow to look as good as if I was just flipping through a bunch of images on the computer in a image viewer...

Thanks

Making a bluured object

$

I am attempting to blur some objects in a video. I have looked at the vidio tutorials, and I have set up my timeline with v1, v2 and a track matte on v3. I chose Mosaic, and got the little square pixelated area to show up. I started the position marker, and I'm moving the pixellated area around as the scene changes. But no tick marks show up, and nothing "takes." It wont stick, and when I export media, the video is like the original - no blurrs anywhere.

I really need specific steps to be able to finish this. I'm stumped.

Thanks!

Adobe Premiere Pro CC has stopped working

I get the following error when I try to run Adobe Premiere Pro CC:

AdobePremiereProCC-StoppedWorking.png

Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 still works well.  The other CC software I tried also work well (Photoshop, After Effects, Audition, etc)

I tried running it from the start menu or from the .exe

I tried running it normally or as an administrator

I tried updating my ATI video card driver, and quicktime just in case, didn't change anything.

I tried uninstalling it, rebooting, reinstalling it, rebooting, and it still doesn't work.

Logo has grey shadow after exporting

Hello everyone,

I have a problem and I don´t know how to proceed.

I exported a movie with a logo (black text on white background) in the beginning and at the end of the film.

The logo is tiff-format, and I used the exact same file for the beginning and the end.

Every time I export the video (as mpeg), the logo in the beginning looks normal, but the logo in the end has a grey shadow around the black letters.

Has anybody had that problem before?

Thank you!

Crash when importing MTS file

Hi,

I'm using Adobe Premiere CS4. I have some .MTS files that I want to import but it crashes everytime I go to import them.

The import loading bar comes up then never loads and I can't do anything but force quit it.

It only effects one folder of videos that i'm trying to import. I can succesfully import other .MTS files but in this one folder the only difference i can see is that there are no .XMP files to go with the .MTS. Would that make a difference?

Anyone else finding it a bit buggy?  I found ppCS6 very stable compared to 5.  I've had about 3 or 4 crashes in in about 6 hours of use.  This is in a project that was converted from ppcs6.  Event logs show different faulting modules (and the others were of the stopped intereacting variety)

Red frames in Adobe Premiere after rendering

Hi! I have a big problem since some months. After rendering .MTS files out of my Canon Leghria HFS in Premiere CS6 there appear red frames from time to time. This is also an issue after exporting them in Adobe Media Encoder. I already contacted Adobe concerning this problem but unfortunately nobody could help me there. I am not alone with this problem when - looking in the help forums in internet. But no hint really helped me out yet. Is there someone who knows this issue and can give me a helping hand? Great thanks!!

Top 15 Issues/Fixes Needed in the next Premiere Pro release/update (CS6.5 or CS7)

$

I’m excited for what’s coming next in Premiere Pro CS6.5 or CS7 (whichever update is next). As a former FCP7 user myself, Premiere CS6 was a quick and necessary switch (especially after changing the main keyboard shortcuts back to what I was used to). I’ve since gone back to FCP7 on occasion for certain things and I can tell you that I’m so glad I’ve switched. For all the headaches and serious errors that I still get daily/weekly with Premiere Pro CS6, it’s still definitely a big step up. I'm encouraged by staff members like Mitch W. that have expressed confidence that many of these issues will be resolved in the next release. Here is my personal list of “Top 15 issues/fixes” needed in the current Premiere Pro CS6…

(Adobe STAFF...feel free to print this out and hand it to the engineers responsible for making changes )

1) The infamous multicam FLAW. Needing no introduction…when you are editing your video in the multicam window and you hit pause or stop Premiere has decided that’s a great time to make a cut on your timeline and also switch angles back to the original angle whether you like it or not. You cannot stop ever while editing multicam without Premiere making these unwanted cuts and angle changes. Awful. Multicam in PPro is otherwise pretty nice, but this issue is terribly counter-productive especially when you are editing longer complex multicam sequences. Imagine if every time you hit pause or stop in the regular timeline it made a cut there and switched clips. Ugh. You get my point.

2) The audio meters/levels do not work while in the multicam window. A staff member in the forums (I think it was you) said this was a bug. Hope it will get fixed. The audio levels work in every other window and its essential to be able to keep an eye on the levels while editing multicam.

3) Ticktime.cpp-207 error. Ugh. What a nightmare. I have confidence that it will be fixed soon. Mitch W. from the forums is my new hero for taking on this error. How to replicate it?…simply have 6 (or 7) or more clips with the warp stabilizer effect added on the same timeline as a nested multicam clip and you get this error upon reopening your project. The more warp stabilizers you use, the more times you’ll have to hit “continue” to get through the error before you can open your project or export it to AME. I deal with this every single day because all my projects use these two elements. Most of my projects I have to hit “continue” on the error message upwards of 350-450 times to open my projects. Gets old fast.

4) Icon View order control. When you display all your clips in icon view instead of a list view (In the project window), there is no metadata to allow you to put the clips in order somehow (or at least maintain the order that you have in the list). There are roundabout workarounds, but c’mon.

5) Warp Stabilizer fixes…it is an AMAZING tool (far, far, far better than smoothcam in FCP7) BUT…it has it’s issues. Since I use hundreds of times/week (no exaggeration) I know it’s functions/flaws really well. The issues with Warp Stabilizer:
a) #3 above
b) Toggle OFF the effect after it’s applied and then hit Analyze again and PPro crashes. (easy to avoid but annoying bug)
c) If a clip is in the middle of stabilizing (not just analyzing…but the final step labeled “analyzing”) when Auto-save comes up…most of the time PPro freezes and crashes.
d) The DEFAULT “method” (in the settings for Warp Stabilizer) should NOT be “Subspace Warp”…it should be “Position, Scale, Rotation”. Why? It’s FAAAAARRRR better and more efficient. 95 out of 100 times it causes MUCH less “wobble” in the final stabilized clips AND most importantly 95 out of 100 times it scales the video less. Way better method.

6) The ability to open multiple projects simultaneously. As simple as FCP7 had it…or even better…as cool and efficient as FCPX does it would be nice.

7) The ability to mark a clip and not just a point on a timeline (because if you move the clip, the marker doesn’t go with it). I know you can use “Clip Marker” but it's very limiting, can't be moved, can't add notes, can't advance to the next marker (as far as I know). Also a marker list like FCPX has would be nice so you can see your markers all in a list at a glance and adjust them as needed.

8) Ability to select a clip in the Project window and find out where it’s used in the timeline. I LOVE how you can do the reverse and take a clip in the timeline and “Reveal in Project Window” but it would really help to go the other way around. Dealing with several hundred clips for every project I’ve missed this feature from time to time (FCPX handles this really well).

9) Add a through-edit indicator in timeline and “re-join clips” option. If you cut a clip but keep both clips together it’s just one continuous clip. But I really hope Premiere adds the not only an indicator of some sort (like FCP7s way of having two small red triangles facing each other on that cut) so you know it’s one continuous clip BUT ALSO the ability to right-click and “re-join” the two clips into one.

10) When clip is double-clicked in timeline, CTI position in source viewer should match location in timeline. This one is pretty annoying and a fix would be incredibly helpful. The way it is now is very counter-productive. Definitely hope this gets fixed ASAP.

11) Better border controls for images/videos. Can’t do much with images right now in PPro. At least allow to customize the color and size/strength of it’s borders and shadows.

12) Better support for Mac/Apple's top end computers/GPU's. I'm still surprised that 2011 top of the line iMac cards (AMD 6970M) that have 2gb of ram are not supported. I’m sure/I hope 2012 iMac’s will be supported with their new Nvidia GPU’s…but I’ll hold out hope that the top iMac (up until 3 months ago) is supported at least at it’s full power. All around better Mac support would be great considering the wave of new users coming over from FCP.

13) Opacity/Transparency issues with EXPORTED videos with Cross Dissolves, etc. For some odd reason videos exported from Premiere CS6 have issues with cross dissolves or minor transparency. I’ll try to explain…in the program window of PPro CS6 cross dissolves look fine. Also, if you take a clip and stack it on top of another clip and put the top clip at say 99% opacity instead of 100 it looks like it should in PPro. But, if you export the clips you’ll quickly see that there are issues. It’s almost like the exported videos dissolve from 5 to 95. They skip the subtle beginning (0-5%) and subtle end (95-100%) of any fade. A clip in PPro as described above that is on top of another but set at 99% will look more like 90-95% in the exported file ESPECIALLY if the two clips are contrasting (eg. top layer dark, bottom layer with bright elements). It’s like the opposit of ease-in/ease-out. I have to ease-in/ease-out of every dissolve to avoid this issue…and even then, it’s not THAT much of an “ease” as one would hope. Another user in a forum once posted a video that shows how abruptly exported videos end their transparency changes…see: THIS SAMPLE VIDEO  Perhaps this is a GPU/processing issue with AME vs. Premiere Pro but whatever it is, it should be fixed so videos you export look like the videos you edited!

14) Better control in Creative Cloud over which devices are “activated/deactivated”  We have 3 computers and it would be nice if one could log in to their Creative Cloud account and see a list of which devices they have and just toggle on/off which one’s are activated/deactivated. This is especially helpful when you are mobile and forget to deactivate one of your two home/office devices so you’re stuck now until you get back to the home/office to deactivate it. This is not a Premiere thing, but just a general wish.

15) Ability to sync multicam clips automatically using the audio. Plural eyes apparently does this well. Would be nice to have it built into Premiere like FCPX does. Select all the shots you want to sync, One button click, wait a few seconds, done.

That’s my top 15. Everything else is awesome in my opinion for what I do 10 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I’ve included bug reports/feature requests for all of these at one point but if you are someone else reading this go to the following link and ask for these issues to be fixed: FEATURE REQUEST/BUG REPORT

I wish Adobe did smaller updates more often. Because even if they were smaller updates, we’d at least know you are working on fixing some of these issues that have plagued this NLE for years. Holding off fixes for one or two big “updates” every year is tough to deal with in a world of the ever updating apps we live and play with daily on our phones. I realize Premiere is a much larger scale and far more professional than a phone app, but hopefully you get my point. Here’s to hoping the next release (NAB 2013?) resolves all my top 15 issues. Here’s to hoping that these issues will be resolved sooner than later so I can stop raising hell in various forums. I’m honestly ready to start praising and defending Premiere Pro instead of griping about it’s bugs and flaws. It’s a fantastic program “on the way” to being the best. I hope.

If I create a series of edits in one video, can I copy and paste those edits into multiple videos?

$

Hi there,

I've tried doing a series of queries to find out my answer, but I think my knowledge of feature names is not good enough to create the correct search.

I am in a band & use Premiere primarily to edit our videos together for our YouTube channel. At the end of each video we have a "bumper" of sorts that features tiles of recent videos. Is there a way that I can copy/paste the group of edits/clips/transitions across different Premier projects?

I know that I can create a static bumper and import that video file. The issue here is that the content will remain the same in the bumpers of every video. I want to copy the animations and text that I've created that says "Watch our latest live performance" "Watch our most recent cover song" etc. The videos that those animations highlight change as the weeks go on.

Any help you can lend would be most appreciated!
