Open captions not visible after rendering (CC 2017)

Hi!

I'm new to the Captions option in Premier Pro. I have 4 caption clips on the timeline with multiple captions in them. I can see the captions in the program monitor and also see the style changes I made to the text. But when I render the footage on the timeline, the captions disappear. What could the issue be?

Thanks!

recreating the look of an old-time silent movie

This is a question about aspect ratio and Adobe Premiere settings. I'm shooting and editing a silent movie that will be displayed by computer projector to 300 people. My Canon XA-H1 produces great HDV images and I want to use and keep the highest resolution possible, but the end product will look more realistic if it's 4.3.

My thought was to use guides in the viewfinder while shooting to keep the action in a safe 4.3 area and then import the footage into a Premiere CC 2017 project.

Which sequence settings should I use coupled with which export settings?

Apologies if this question betrays a lack of understanding of what's really going on. And thanks.

Importing photos for a time lapse video at one time

I have like 200 pictures for a time lapse video. If I import all at one time, I can't choose image sequence, meaning all the imported photos are still. If I only import a single picture at one time, I can click the image sequence button, but it's too time-consuming. I'd like to know how to import all pics at one time while the pics are not still.

Why is my rendering and playback so slow With 2016 MacbookPro core I7

Framing and aspect ratio

$

Typically in a project my video is 13:9 but my still images are 3:2., "set to frame size"  so that I'm starting at around 40%--leaving plenty of zoom head-room.  In watching the recent Ken Burn special (on him) I notice that when his images have black bars on either size (less than 13:9), he is able to zoom and scan, but his black bars stay the same (i.e. the actual image frame, the image aspect ratio,  is unchanged.

As I've been doing it, when I zoom in, the black bars begin to diminish and even disappear--i.e. the magnification changes the entire size that the image is framed in, eventually reaching 13:9. Can you please comment on these two approaches, and also tell me how Burns keeps two frame sizes: either 13:9 or whatever the size (aspect ratio) is for his still images, even when animated?

Thanks

Premiere Pro CC Cursor Offset

Hi all,

Strange issue that has just started this morning. The cursor in Premiere Pro seems to be slightly offset, above and to the left.

For example if I want to add a cross-fade to the end of a clip I drag the transition from the effects panel and hover over the end of a clip in the sequence. However instead of being able to drop it in position I get a cursor with a cross next to it indicating I can't put the transition there. If I then move the cursor above the clip and slightly to the left I can drop the transition on the clip no problem at all. It's as if Premiere Pro isn't quite sure where the cursor really is. Strangely though normal selection of clips and general clicking around the interface is fine, it's only when dragging or hovering on something that this issue appears.

It is also confined to Premiere Pro as no other applications on Mac OS X are exhibiting this behaviour.

I've already checked that I've got the latest updates installed and tried a reboot but the issue persists.

Any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks

Panasonic GH5 MOV files not working in Premiere

Just received my GH5 and started testing the different formats yesterday.  The MOV 4096x2160, 23.98p 422/10bit/LonGop 150mps LPCM is causing Premiere to crash. The mp4 3840x2160 ,23.98p 420/8bit/LongGOP 100mbs LPCM works fine.  I'm using the latest version of Premiere.

Thanks,

Making use of Second Mouse Wheel / horizontal mouse wheel (on a gaming mouse) in Premiere Pro

Hey fellow Editors

Just yesterday i bought myself a new Rat 8 gaming mouse in the strong believe to not only be able to assign the 7 buttons to specific shortcuts in premiere pro CC 2017 to speed up my workflow, but also to use the secondary scrolling wheel, that is alligned horizontally, to be able to scroll the timeline horizontally and use the standard scroll wheel for zooming in, jump single frames, adjust track height and similar things.

However, even when analyzing all customizable functions / shortcuts like Sherlock, i did not find a way to assign a function for the secondary scroll wheel.

Has anyone assigned that wheel to specific functions / shortcuts or in General, am I naiv for thinking i can take advantage of all additional keys with a gaming mouse inside of an editing software?

Any answers and help would be highly appreciated. Thanks

How do I generate pure rendered grayscale?

Background

Every year I calibrate my BenQ W7000 projector using the Disney WOW Blu-ray disk. Nothing fancy, I simply calibrate blacks, whites, and colour (using the provided blue filter). It's always a battle because I have to alternate between the three calibration videos several times, and each time I change videos the projector has to resync (which takes 20 seconds or so).

Brilliant Idea

So I had the brilliant idea of generating my own calibration video using Premiere and Encore – a video with three chapters, so that I can jump back and forth between chapters without losing sync.

1. Generate the Black, White and Colour videos in separate timelines in Premiere.

2. Export to Blu-ray format

3. Assemble in Encore and build to Blu-ray

Problem

The grayscale on the resultant Blu-ray was not accurate. For example, RGB (239, 239 239) generated as a Title in Premiere, ended up something like RGB (240, 238, 240). So I tried exporting with a variety of codecs and containers, and only ProRes 4444 gave the right results. But… when I imported ProRes 4444 into Encore, it had to be transcoded, and I ended up with the wrong colours again.

Accurate Grayscale

The Disney disk seems to have accurate grayscale, and some freebie calibration mp4 videos that I tried also have accurate grayscale, but I can't get Premiere to do it.

Question 1

When setting up grayscale panels and then rendering, what do I have to do inside Premiere to get accurate grayscale in a small output file? For example, the mp4 included in the download below, runs for 5 minutes, is colour accurate, and only consumes 2.3 MB (only 52kB when compressed).

My attempt in Premiere at generating a calibration disk, and a freebie calibration mp4 file as a comparison, can be downloaded here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/bcczbqm0ee5afuj/Grayscale.zip

Note: the levels named in the mp4 file have been shifted for some reason. 16 is actually Black (level 0) and 235 is white (level 255).

Essential Graphics Panel non functional in Windows 10

Here is my system

Essential Graphics panel shows all the different templates. However, when applying one to the timeline, say lower third, there are no options for editing and the title does not visibly show in the canvas. Further, when trying to use AE generated templates I get this dialogue

adobedialogue.png

I have the most up-to-date version of AE installed. I don't understand why I should have to always have the last 3 versions of the same software installed to counter Adobe's removal of vital tools.

2017.0.2 - Clips disappear from bins.

Hello All,

I have a large project with 4000+ clips. 3 times during the length of this project, I would open a bin to only find 1 or no clips inside. This is confirmed when I check to see media linked to the project, and only half (~2000) clips are found.

It seems the clips are disappearing in the middle of working.

Has anyone had similar issues?

"Default Scale to Frame Size" Gone???

So it appears that Adobe really hates it's paying subscribers and decided to remove the "default scale to frame size" option in it's preferences! Why??? So besides manually scaling to frame size all mismatched clips in the timeline, is a solution or workaround to achieve this more simply?

Impossible workflow with 11.1.1

Hello,

I'm pretty angry about this last update.

I can't run premiere smoothly anymore on my laptop (MBP 2011).

It's an old laptop, with these graphic cards

AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB

Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB

I was told that from the last update they're not supported anymore, but after chatting again with the support, apparently, these haven't been supported by premiere for two years now (as premiere needs at least 1GB of graphic card memory)

I've always been able to work smoothly in 1080p and a big laggy in 4k before the 11.1.1 (15) so here we go.

I've updated (required for work, as working with multiple editors, so I can't go back to a previous version), my workflow is impossible, I can't even play 1080p footage at 1/4 quality, I need to render every single time I make the smallest change to my timeline.

Let's not talk about exporting. Takes at least three times more!

As a full-time editor, it's impossible for me to work with this setup, and I'm forced to buy a new machine to be able to work properly, so you can imagine my state of mind when from a second to the other, I'm not able to work anymore with my machine, that has been perfect since before the update.

Here's my question.

is there anything I can try, software-wise, to try and restore a little bit of smoothness to premiere, or it's a lost cause?

Thanks

When does "cache file managment" occur?

$

I'm trying to test the new automatic cache file management, to make sure that it works for my company, the way we think it will.

On Windows 10, it's currently set to the first option (delete when older than...), with the minimum number of days--7.

I have a bunch of cache files from all over May that are still present. I keep launching Premiere every few days to see if it will magically clean up those files. So far it hasn't done anything (that I've noticed). I have a 2GB cache file in that folder as well, so it's not like it's just ignoring trivial files.

Any ideas on how to check to see if it's run recently, or to force it to run, or what conditions are required for it to run? It only says "Cache file management will occur weekly".

EDIT: a couple of minutes after posting this question, I checked the cache folder and it was now nice and cleaned up!! :-) I guess my question is still a valid one, in case it helps anyone in the future.

Media files deleted after 2017.1 upgrade

$

This may be a coincidence, but it's a mighty big one at that.  I upgraded this afternoon and opened my most recent project.  I went through the new features and then looked into the Preferences to see if there was anything new.  Arriving at the Media Cache tab I decided click on "clean unused"  Media Cache Database.  That's something I've done in previous versions.  Then I closed the open project and opened another I had finished last week.  Surprise, all media files were missing.  I checked the original file's directory.  All of the root and subfolders were intact.  However, when I looked in the clip folder all of the .MXF files were gone, leaving just the .xmp and .XML.  Every folder, in every project that was shot in AVCHD or XAVC (except for the one that was initially open) was missing the media files.  Not only that, but I found FCP 7 Capture scratch folders emptied except for the autosave vault.   There were other media files missing as well including mp4 exports, and some but not all .mov exports from every project.  Also missing are from a foder are .img files containing DVD images.  Unexplainably, some ProRes files recorded on Atomos were untouched, as well as other's that were transcodes from XAVC to ProRes.

I contacted Adobe Support via chat.  The agent told me that it was not possible for the "clean unused" function to cause all the deletions.  You can specify the media cache directory to be cleaned and in my case it was definitely not the root of the drive, nor any of the media folders.   He said that nobody has reported this issue so far.

All of my media is on a two drive RAID and that was the only drive effected. The good news is that all of my media is backed up, sometimes twice for the most important clients.  Of course restoring all that media will take hours.  Before I do that I'm running a file restoration program (that also takes hours).

Finally, the "clean unused" command may have nothing to do with it, but the fact that no media was deleted from the open project is suspicious.

Hi guys,

My film crew just shot a few scenes with the Black Magic Ursa Mini Raw, but I could not import it into my Premiere Pro CC 2015.4 using Windows 10.

I tried importing from the media browser but still couldn't process the footage. The message says unsupported format or damaged file.

Reinstalling the application may fix this problem "and the program closes.I had never happened and only happens with Premiere, After, Illustrator, Photoshop work perfectly. Now someone knows why this happens to me.

I have reinstalled the program several times but the problem continues.
